Girl Scouts: In case you weren't on the list, but were going to go anyways

Hi everyone,

I called and emailed everyone who had signed up on the list last night, BUT, in case you weren't on the list and were planning to go anyways:

We got word last night that the nursing home we were planning to visit today is experiencing a severe flu outbreak and they've shut down for outside visitors.  That includes us, so the visit is canceled for now and we'll reschedule it when they let us know it's OK.

Please keep them in your thoughts and hearts though because the flu is especially difficult for the elderly and immune compromised people, so this is especially terrible for the home.

Our Thursday meeting is unaffected though.  So we'll see you there if you were scheduled for it today.

IMPORTANT: REPLY PLEASE--NURSING HOME VISIT HAD TO CANCEL

We just talked to the nursing home, and they are experiencing a major flu outbreak so they've shut the home down for visitors.  (Including us.)

We're looking at rescheduling, but tomorrow at least is a no go.

Please email me back ASAP so I know you got this and don't have to call to confirm with you.

I am so sorry for any inconvenience.  Let's keep the residents at the home in our hearts too, the flu is especially dangerous for elderly and immune compromised patients, so this is especially rough for them.

Small Update to the Nursing Home Agenda--Pizza is for everyone and will be at the home

Hi,

I was just corrected, and we'll have the pizza at the nursing home circa 5:45 so all the girls can eat before we start.

(And we're still hoping for a dad to swing by 7:15 or so to be Santa!)

Girl Scouts: Nursing Home Visit Thursday (Please reply)

Hello!

I wanted to check in about a couple details for Thursday:

1) I wanted to make sure everyone has a ride out to The Elizabeth Residence Nursing Home on Thursday.  Do any scouts need rides?  I know some of you are scheduled to stay and chaperone (Thanks!) and offered space in your vehicles for scouts that may need rides.  Please let me know if you need a ride and we'll coordinate meeting up.

2)  For the people driving, do you know where we're going?  The address is:  9329 South 48th Street, Franklin, WI 53132
Map/Directions here.  They're expecting us there at 6:00, and we expect to stay until 8:00.

3)  If your scout is at the Girl Scout meeting on Thursday, we'll order some pizzas and have them after the meeting for the girls to get something to eat between the meeting and the Nursing Home so you don't have to worry about that.

4)  I have the Santa suit again, and some of the girls asked if Santa was going to show up.  Is there a dad that could be there around 7:15 to change into the Santa suit and hand out gifts to the girls?  (Please?)

I think that's all, see you soon!

Girl Scouts--We double super special need help for Thursday

Hi again everyone,

I found out we're more short staffed than I expected on Thursday.  So, even more than I stressed in the previous email, it is imperative we get an extra parent to the meeting.

It shouldn't be tough, but Girl Scouts requires us to be ready for anything!

Thanks so much in advance!

Aleks

Girl Scouts: One big week over, another one just starting!

Hello scout families (and teachers!)

What a great week last week!

First, between our troop and the younger girls, almost 30 girls represented Girl Scouts at the first Girl Scouts vs. Boy Scouts Raingutter Regatta.  We have some ideas to make it a little bit more fun and more involving for girls next year--how does a "Best Decorated" award sound?  Or letting each scout get 2-3 races in more of a round-robin style with more gutters available instead of elimination brackets?  If you have other ideas, let me know too, and we'll see how to implement them!

Second, the Cookie CEO Bootcamp went great.  The girls definitely learned more about some basic business principles (target markets, product promotion, and goal setting) and had a great time making a commercial, a Rube Goldberg style cookie delivery machine, and pitching their cookie business to the top Girl Scout Executives just like entrepreneurs do on TV shows like "Shark Tank."  If your girl went, we'll have the videos of their business pitch and their commercial to send to you pretty soon!

On to this week:

First, if you haven't picked a meeting date yet, please do.  The signup page is here, and IF YOU HAVE A HIGHLAND VIEW STUDENT MAKE SURE TO ALSO WRITE THEIR MEETING CHOICE IN THEIR AGENDA.  On Wednesday we'll start with some scout games, do some winter crafts, and move on to work on our plan to help make it easier for kids to eat healthy at our schools.  We may even be able to have the Food Services Consultant for Greendale School District teleconference in on Skype so we can talk with her about what is being done, and what can be done.  On Thursday we'll have members of Teens Against Tobacco Use from Greendale High School come in to help us work up our plan to help kids at Highland View not start smoking.

I see the Thursday meeting is pretty crowded--if you can spend some time at the meeting helping the scouts, it really makes a difference.  Please take a moment and sign up here.

Second, there are three spots available for scouts for the nursing home visit on Thursday at 6:00 at the Elizabeth Residence.  The sign up page for that (and more information) is here.

That's about all, (I think--you know I'm not shy about sending another email if I forgot something though!)

See you soon,

Aleks Skibicki

Game Info (Probably useful!)

I forgot to include this in the last email--enjoy!

1/25/2015 game at 3:00 PM vs. the Wichita B-52's.
In addition to being Girl Scout day, it's also "Princesses and Superheroes" day so you can wear any princess or superhero gear you want.
Parents and siblings are all invited.
Tickets are $15 for Premier tickets, $20 for Preferred, or $25 for VIP level tickets.
Ticket area diagram here:  http://www.milwaukeewave.com/tickets/seatingmap

"Before the game there will be a Girl Scout Parade
Girl Scouts will get a Wave patch
There'll be a pre-game discussion with local trainers, nutritionists, and others on healthy living
Participation in fun activities on the field (Troop relay races, Soccer obstacle course, and more!)"

Last Call for the Wave Game!

Hello!

I just finished trying (and failing) to talk the Wave sales rep into an extra discount for our group.  So I'll start with a quick question:  Since the folks interested were evenly split between wanting VIP ($25) seats, Preferred ($20) seats, and not caring which seats, would anyone be unable to go if we went with the VIP seating for the tickets?  If it would be difficult, let me know and the troop (or team--whichever you're affiliated with) will cover the difference, no questions asked, as always.

That said, as it stands I'll be ordering 19 tickets tomorrow afternoon for the following scouts/players/families:
Elli C. + Family (4 total)
Hannah P. + Family (4 total)
Adrhia F.
Aria Kanable + Ava Wulf
Evie S. + Family (3 total)
Katie B. + Mom
Jesialis P.
Gabby + Dad

Now, there is no deadline to get tickets, but if you get tickets later, you may not end up sitting with the group.  Just let me know if you do plan on getting tickets on your own, and I can let you know where ours are so you can see if the Wave can get you over by the rest of the bunch.

Thanks!  Happy scouting/soccer-ing!

Aleks

Girl Scouts: Big weeks coming up! (Sign up for the meetings too.)

Hello scout families!

There's a lot coming up, so here's reminders and sign ups for everything!

1)  First, this Thursday 12/11 is the Girl Scouts vs. Boy Scouts Raingutter Regatta.  If you contacted me about it, you should have your boat kit in hand by now (except Katie, but you're getting it tomorrow, and Dea if it the concert isn't going to conflict for you.)  So, we expect to see those scouts there representing Girl Scouts!  It's in the Highland View gym from 6:00-8:00.

2)  Second, meeting Sign Ups are ready!  The choices are Wednesday December 17th, and Thursday December 18th.  In addition to doing some games, and a winter craft, we're going to officially start putting our plans to make a difference in our community into action.  Here's the link to the sign up page.

***REMINDER FOR HIGHLAND VIEW STUDENTS:  PLEASE REMEMBER TO MARK YOUR SCOUT'S AGENDA FOR THE DAY YOU CHOOSE!***

Also, as always, if you can, please stay at the meeting and help out.  It's not too much work, and it really makes a difference!  Here's that link!

3)  Third, this Friday-Saturday 12/12-12/13 is the Cookie CEO Sleepover at Camp Pottawatomie Hills.  We'll be leaving our house at 5:00, and expect to return at 4:00 on Saturday.  Breakfast will be provided, but you'll need to pack a lunch for Saturday, and a snack for Friday night (assuming you eat something dinner-ish before we leave.  Also, Friday night, we'll be working on a cookie related Rube Goldberg devie, so if you want to pack building materials (paper tubes, recycled containers, popsicle sticks, cardboard, marbles, etc.) that would be cool too.  Any items are allowed as long as they do not present any safety concerns.

Finally, doing some basic math, I have room for 8 scouts on the way up, and 11 scouts on the way back (Mrs. Skibicki is coming up after she gets out of work, so won't arrive at camp until 8:00 or so.)  What that means is that I'm searching for a parent that could drive their scout to camp that Friday night.  (We could bring her back on Saturday.)

Here's who I have registered for the Cookie CEO sleepover event:
Gabby H.
Evie S.
Lia S.
Teagan A.
Adrhia F.
Katie B.
Megha M.
Maya H.
Olivia Ka.

Ms. Kelly
Mr. Aleks
Mrs. Skibicki (after work)

4)  There's still room for scouts to join us doing crafts and eating snacks with the residents of the Elizabeth Residence Nursing Home.  Sign up for that here.

5)  I'm ready to put in the ticket order for the Wave Game on 1/25.  So if anyone else is interested in going, let me know now, so we get seats all together.  As far as I can tell there's no deadline to order tickets, but if the orders get separated, our seats probably will too.

Details I have so far:
It's for the 1/25/2015 game at 3:00 PM vs. the Wichita B-52's.
In addition to being Girl Scout day, it's also "Princesses and Superheroes" day so you can wear any princess or superhero gear you want.
Parents and siblings are all invited.
Tickets are $15 for Premier tickets, $20 for Preferred, or $25 for VIP level tickets.

That's all for now!  Happy scouting!
