Girl Scouts: Scout Lake Park Cleanup Sunday!

Hello scouts!

Just a reminder and some details on the Scout Lake Park cleanup.

May 29th (Sunday), we'll meet at the playground at 11:00 AM.  I'll have bags and gloves and girls can split up and clean up until Noon.  Then we'll take a breather, have a little picnic, and let the girls play until they're tired and want to go home.  I've been announcing it as 11:00-2:00, but if people leave early or stay late, that's A-OK!  It'll be some community service, food, and fun.

It'll be bring your own picnic--so bring along whatever you like to eat and drink, and blankets/chairs, etc.  Also, bug spray and (hopefully) sunscreen could be useful too!  I'l bring hand sanitizer for between picking garbage and picnic-ing, in case the girls' gloves let any dirt in.

See you there!

Girl Scouts: Meeting Notes and Thursday Meeting Request

Hi everyone!

FIRST:  For today (5/19) scouts, because I have to zip over to soccer practice at College Park after scouts, please try to pick up your scout at 5:00 today.  I promise to have the girls' projects wrapped up by then!

On to our meeting recap:

This month has had some great weather for meetings, and we've used it!

First, in order not to make dads jealous, we've made our Father's Day project--Cupcake in a jar!  We wanted to do something in a jar, but figured dads might not know what to do with a sugar scrub--I sure wouldn't!  Just in case the directions aren't clear on the jars, all Dad will have to do for the cupcake is to add 1/3 cup water, shake it up real well, uncover it and microwave it for 1 minute 20 sec. (A little more or less depending on the power of your microwave.)

Second, we took the show on the road and cleaned up around our schools.  The girls had a lot of fun enjoying the weather and seeing who could find the most litter.  Your scouts are definitely good cleaner-uppers!  (Hopefully they take that ability back home with them for their rooms too!)

We wrapped up with a snack, and headed home.

Since this was the last official school-year meeting, I'll get our summer schedule out soon so you can join in some of our summer activities too.  Traditionally there are a few Beach Cleanup evenings, a trip to the Renaissance Faire on Scout Day, and a trip to Old World Wisconsin.

There's also:

The Scout Lake Park Cleanup/Picnic  on the 29th 11AM-2PM--no registration needed,
And on June 5th 12-4PM, there's the Service Area Picnic--there's still a little room left for that one so if you're interested in going, let me know!
And for our 3rd and 5th grade scouts, there's the Bridging Ceremony in the HV gym on June 3rd 6:30-8:00

Thanks everyone, and see you soon!

Girl Scouts: P.S. Helpers on Wednesday?

Hi again,

One quick follow up:  Since Mrs. Skibicki is out of town, I could really use extra help on Wednesday.  Anyone?

(Please?)

Girl Scouts: Anyone else for Girl Scouts this Wednesday or Thursday at Highland View?

Hi everyone!

There aren't a lot of sign ups for our meetings this week:  http://www.signupgenius.com/go/10c0a4fa5ad22a13-maymeeting

It's another fun one!  We'll be making a Father's Day project (in a jar so Dad's not jealous of Mom's gift!) and doing some work cleaning up around our school.

See you tomorrow or Thursday!

Girl Scouts: Highland View favor?

Hi everyone!

I'm working with the 5th grade celebration committee at Highland View and I need to find a copy of the 2010-2011 yearbook (when the current 5th graders were 5K-ers)

For some reason I can't find Evie's yearbook from 4K--does anyone else have a copy?

Thanks!

Girl Scouts: Meetings already? Yup! Sign up ASAP!

Hi everyone!

This week snuck up on me!  But we do have the first of our May meetings on Thursday at College Park.  Here's the sign up as usual!

We'll be balancing things out by doing a Father's Day project, and (weather willing) doing some work cleaning up around the school, and maybe even get a jump start on our work getting kids to wear their bike helmets for our Bronze Award.

If you can, I really (REALLY) need parents to help out this month at Highland View (18th or 19th) because Mrs. Skibicki won't be ale to attend, s we're starting out short one grownup already!

Also:  3rd and 5th grade scouts, don't forget about the all school Bridging Ceremony on June 3rd (6:30-8:00) where we'll celebrate your transition from Brownies to Junior Scouts (3rd graders) or from Junior Scouts to Cadettes (5th graders.)

Here's the meeting sign up:

Thanks so much!  See you soon!

Girl Scouts: P.S. For all thee events

Hello again!

Just a quick addendum to the last message:

All three events (Picnic June 5th, Park Cleanup May 29th, and Bridging June 3rd) are full-family, everyone's welcome, parents + siblings too if you want.

Girl Scouts: Three dates to add to the calendar--Please reply!

Hi Scout families!

Before I get into the dates, an update on one of our projects from last month, the recycled plastic bag bracelets.  One scout wanted me to share this website with everyone for additional uses of plastic bags--things like making doormats, yarn, flowers, and even baskets from those bags!  http://ecosalon.com/diy-10-things-to-make-from-plastic-bags/

Now, three dates for your calendar:

1)  June 5th, Green Corners Girl Scout Picnic 12:00-4:00 at Konkel Park.  The Girl Scout Service Area is providing the meat but sides are potluck and there's no charge to join in. There'll be games, and food, and a lot of fun.  I need to have a headcount ASAP though, so if you're interested in coming, let me know!

2)  Our rescheduled local "Go Green" event Sunday May 29th, 11:00-2:00 Scout Lake Park.  To (belatedly) celebrate Earth Day, we'll be meeting up at Scout Lake park to do a park cleanup and do our part for our local environment.  Bring a lunch and we'll have a picnic and do some celebrating afterwards--making sure to clean up after ourselves then too!

3)  3rd and 5th Grade scouts bridging ceremony June 3rd 6:30-8:00.  Our 3rd grade scouts are growing out of Brownies and into Juniors, and our 5th grade Junior Scouts are growing out of Juniors and into Cadettes, and this is the time we celebrate that milestone.  Anyone is free to join us at the bridging ceremony that Friday evening to congratulate these scouts on their milestone.

And, speaking of dates, our May meetings are May 12th at College Park, and 18th and 19th at Highland View.  The Meeting Sign Up will be available soon.

Finally, our troop still has some cookies available to sell.  While they won't add to girls totals for prizes, if you know anyone who might want a few more boxes, every sold box gets the troop one step closer to Washington DC next summer (2017) and helps cover the various other troop expenses throughout the year.  Contact Ms. Kelly for details ( kellymatt8476@gmail.com )

Thanks everyone!
