Girl Scouts: Camp Out Sign Up and 4th of July Parade Sign Up

Hi everyone!

Here's the sign up for the September campout.  it should be a ton of fun again.  I know a lot of the girls have great memories from these Fall campouts.  Sign up as soon as you can.  I need to get t-shirt sizes in to the Service Area by July 1st.

And here's a sign up to let me know how many scouts to expect marching in the 4th of July parade. Thanks for letting me know!

Thanks so much everyone!

Keep enjoying summer!

Girl Scouts: Another OOPS!

Hi again!

Summer schedule correction--the Green Corners Campout is SEPTEMBER 9-11, not July 9-11.  The information was all correct, just substitute "September" for "July" in the schedule I sent out yesterday!  The sign up genius page will be correct, when I get the 10 minutes to make it.

Girl Scouts: Ooops. I mis-scheduled already!

Hi everyone,

Somehow I misread my schedule, and I will not be around July 17th, when the Renaissance Faire Scout Day is.  So.  There are a couple choices:

A)  Can someone else coordinate that, and take lead fiddle?  That would also open the door to using August 16th since technically it's a Scout weekend.  I wasn't able to do the 16th, but if someone can, and wants to take charge, then that's a possibility!

B)  We can move to a different date. The August 6th choice I was tentatively using for Old World Wisconsin should fit well, or August 27-28th.  The tickets won't be specifically discounted for that day BUT, there are usually places to find discounted tickets that get pretty close to that amount. There's also a tab for "Group Sales" offering "special savings" so I can look into that too if we switch the date.

Anyone?

Girl Scouts: Summer events! We got 'em! Also--start thinking about a year from now!

Hi everyone!

Long time no chat!  I hope this first weekend of summer is going well for everyone. We have a big fun summer coming up!  Based on requests I've heard from the girls, (and parents) here's our schedule for the summer or 2016!  (It should look pretty familiar though--it seems like we're getting into some traditions for summertime!)

1)  Summertime beach cleanups!  My FAVORITE summer activity. Enjoy the cool lake breeze, relax, and do some great service for our community!  And for the July, August, and September cleanups, they usually include free pizza at Classic Slice afterwards.  No registration necessary, and there's no cost (though I appreciate it if you tell me you're coming so I know to look for you!)  Just show up at the appropriate time.  Unfortunately, I can't be at the July and August Clean Ups, so let me know if you go and I'll get the appropriate patches to you!  (I'm serious though--it's so relaxing, I totally recommend going!)

SPECIAL NOTE:  THE JUNE 23rd CLEAN UP IS AT A DIFFERENT BEACH

June 23rd:  South Shore Beach 5:00-6:30  Meet on the paved trail at the northeast corner of the Park Pavilion. South Shore Park Pavilion is located at 2900 S. Shore Drive, Milwaukee.
July 14, Bay View Beach 6:30-8 Meet either on the beach after 6:30, or at the paved trail in the park above the beach before 6:30.  3120 S. Lake Drive
August 11 Bay View Beach 6:30-8 Meet either on the beach after 6:30, or at the paved trail in the park above the beach before 6:30.  3120 S. Lake Drive
September 8 Bay View Beach 6:30-8 Meet either on the beach after 6:30, or at the paved trail in the park above the beach before 6:30.  3120 S. Lake Drive

2) Greendale 4th of July Parade!  Woohoo!  This is always a lot of fun.  The girls love being seen and throwing candy out to the crowd. (I think our troop keeps MOST Greendale dentists employed...)   The Parade is on Monday July 4th.  Line up starts at 9:00, the parade is supposed to start at 10:00.  We should plan to meet up at 9:25-9:30.  As usual, I'll bring one candy wagon and decorations we can use to 4-th-of-July-it-all-up.  If someone else can bring a second wagon to bring the candy reserves, that would be great!  Also, no registration needed, and no cost.  But also as usual, if you let me know to expect you, that's great and greatly appreciated!

3)  Scout day at the Renaissance Faire!  Also a long time favorite.  Every year they have a day where scouts and parents get discounted tickets ($5.00 off)  So, our troop will be going on Sunday July 17th.  Meet at our house at 9:00, with the goal of being at the Faire by 10:00.  We will plan to be back at our house for pick up at 6:00PM. Adult Tickets (age 13+) $19.00 Child Tickets (age 5-12) $8.00.  Of course, as always always always, if the price would be a burden, or would stop your scout from attending, just let me know and the troop will cover it--no questions asked, and no stories ever told.

4)  Green Corners Camp Out!  Technically this one's during the school year, but I have to get folks registered NOW.  The Campout is July 9th through the 11th, and here's how registration would work--you can sign up for one of three choices:
1)  Go up Friday 9/9 after school, and stay overnight and go home at 5:00 Saturday 9/10 Night (Get back to Milwaukee around 6:00)
2)  Go up Saturday 9/10 morning, and go home at 5:00 Saturday Night (Get back to Milwaukee around 6:00)
3)  Go up Saturday 9/10 morning, and stay overnight and go home at 11:00 Sunday 9/11 morning (Get back to Milwaukee around noon.)  I will make a sign up genius for this ASAP.  Things are a little busy right now, but expect it Monday-ish.  Until then, really think about which option you prefer.

5)  Old World Wisconsin.  I promised some of the girls we'd get another trip to Old World Wisconsin in this summer so they can visit some of the other locations (and apparently their favorite location--the gift shop!) I'd like to tentatively plan this for August 6th.  But will firm the date and timeline up as it gets a little closer.  Does that day work for anyone in general?

EXCLUSIVELY FOR PARENTS:

6)  Greendale Elementary Parents United Kickball Team August 13th at Village Days for the Greendale Education Foundation.
Our Greendale School Parents team needs a few more players (If you're already on my soccer parents team, then ignore this!  That's a different team!)  We'll play at least 2 games between 10:00-4:00 Saturday August 13th.  It'll be $15 per player--but the money goes 100% to the Greendale Education Foundation which in turn spends 100% of it on the staff, students, and schools in Greendale.

7)  Start thinking about Summer 2017 and our Girl Scouts Crash the Capital trip to Washington D.C. that we've been saving cookie money for for a few years now.  Ms, Kelly and I are starting to plan it.  I've contacted a couple school tour companies, and have started looking into whether it's something we can build from the ground up ourselves.

How does that sound for a handful of fun summer plans?

Girl Scouts need some help!

Hi everyone,

Donna Celsor is the troop leader of one of the Greendale Middle School troops, and she and her daughter have been helping with our troop for a couple years now too--thanks Donna and Catherine!

Troop 1812 is helping at the High School Garden transplanting strawberries this Wednesday (June 8th) and they need some extra pots for the plants that don't fit in their new home.  They'll be selling the excess plants at the Greendale Farmer's market to raise money for the High School Garden.

Does anyone have any spare plant/flowerpots?

Thanks so much!

Aleks

Subject: Girl Scout help/ planting strawberries

Could you please ask all of your scouts parents if they have any pots
of any size shape or style that they would like to donate. The
community garden is moving their strawberry patch and they have a ton
of plants that need to find a new home. Troop 1812 is transplanting
them for sale at the first Green Market June 25 as a small fundraiser
for the garden.

I can swing by and pick up pots if anyone is willing to help out.
Please email me with phone numbers or email addresses and I will call
to schedule a pick up.

Thanks a bunch,  Donna

Girl Scouts: Girl Scout Picnic June 5th Information and anyone else?

Hi everyone!

The Service Area Girl Scout Picnic is going to be super fun--lots of games, food, face painting, and other fun--and it's coming up soon!
This Sunday June 5th, 12:00-4:00PM they have rented the picnic space of Konkel Park South which is closer to the Edgerton Ave side of the park. There is parking on the south side off 51st & Edgerton or the north side of the park on 51st & Layton (walk over the bridge to get to the park.

Here's everything you need to know.

BUT, before that, I over-registered, anticipating some folks might decide to go at the last minute.  Here's who I'm expecting (if your name is in italics, it means you RSVP-ed with a siblings troop, so I'll see you there, but didn't include you in our count.)

Kringel Family
Schrank Family
Skibicki Family
Hannah Schlicht (Family?)
Depp Family
Persike Family
Megha Muralidharan (Family?)
Walser Family
Wnuk Family

Anyone else? The Service Area (Greendale, Greenfield, and Hales Corners) Scout Organization is providing grilled hot dogs, brats, and burgers, and all the activities. There's no charge at all, but they are asking folks to bring a dish to pass.

Bring your own drinks, chairs/blankets, (there are some picnic tables, but there will also be a bunch of people there) and a dish to pass:
Last names beginning with A-L bring a side dish to share* Last names beginning with M-Z bring a dessert to share*
* If you have a great idea, or already were committed to a particular dish and it doesn't fall into the suggested category, it's OK! These are guidelines, not rules. They just want to make sure we don't end up with 100 bowls of potato salad!

Also note: Since this is a scout event no alcohol will be permitted.

The grill will be cooking from 12:00-2:00. Games and activities will start at 1:00.

Thanks so much--see you there! Let's hope for some more of this great weather!
