Hi everyone,
With the October meetings wrapped up, let's recap what the girls worked on this month!
The bulk of the meeting was taken up preparing for our Bronze Award project that's coming in spring. The plan is to hold a Bike Safety Day in the parking lot of one of our schools. We'll invite safety experts like police and firefighters, have safety games and prizes, have places to decorate kids bike helmets and sticker for kids to put on their bikes reminding them to wear their helmets. We'd also like to have helmets to give to families/kids that don't have or can't afford them.
To do all that though, we'll need help, and THAT was our project this month. We split into groups, and some of the girls prepared a persuasive letter to write to a targeted group (store, community group, police department, etc.) to schedule an appointment to meet and ask for donations. The second (and third) squads at each meeting prepared presentations to deliver to those targeted groups once meetings were scheduled.
I'll post those presentations on line so the girls can keep studying their parts. We'll also type up the girls' letters and get them sent out so we can start getting those donations and helpers rolling in!
After all that hard work, each squad shared their letters and presentations with the rest of the girls at the meeting, and then we had a little sticky delicious fun making caramel apples with all sorts of toppings (crushed oreos, chocolate chips, rice krispies, crushed graham crackers, etc.)
It was a lot of fun, and, when you look at the presentations and letters, you'll see it was very productive too.
I'll close out with an announcement for an upcoming announcement:
There'll be a bunch of DC Trip information coming down the pipeline soon, so be ready for it. I was going to include it here, but it got just crazy out of hand! Some new ideas, and some options will be coming out too. Also, whether you're interested in being a driver or not, if you are thinking of joining in the trip, please let Ms. Kelly and I know and send us that recap of your volunteer/helper history with the troop. We want to be as fair as we can when choosing who fills which spots, and we trust you to remember your Girl Scout efforts better than we do. We're looking for ways to include more parents and make it a more comfortable trip for everyone involved.
Thanks everyone, happy scouting!
Aleks
