Girl Scouts: Something Fun, and Something Else Fun!

Hi everyone!

First:  Happy Holidays; I hope you're all staying warm!

Second:  Evie suggested we do something fun, and that sounds like a great idea.  Would anyone be interested in doing just a fun scout-night-splatter-room-party at Field Workshop one of these days coming up?  Between Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday nights, which is better for everyone?

Third:  We've been invited to bring the robot we brought to the Girl Scout Zoo Day to the Girl Scout Cookie Kickoff Party and Admirals game on February 4th.  We'd run it as a "Robot Cookie Delivery Station" and would all get free tickets to the Admirals game that evening that's connected to the kickoff event.  We'd be responsible for being at the kickoff event from 1:00-6:00PM, and could stay for the admirals game or head home, whichever you prefer.  I need to have numbers to scouts pretty quickly, so let me know if you're interested ASAP!

Fourth:  Enjoy the rest of your break, and Happy New Year!

Girl Scout Climate Challenge Day November 8th

Hi again!

Remember tomorrow is Girl Scout Climate Challenge Day at GMS!

6:30-8:00.

We'll be helping younger Girl Scouts work on their Climate Challenge Badge.  It should be a ton of fun.  We'll be doing things like:

Explore greenhouse gases and the carbon cycle,

Explore land, air, water, and biodiversity of a garden,

Learn about climate change's effects on bees and other pollinators,

Plant a tree,

Make a map of community resources,

Learn about invasive species,

Help reduce their home's carbon footprint,

Go to a community event to help the environment (hint--they're at one!)

Learn the steps of the scientific method,

Mrs. Hahm will be the keynote speaker, so it's also a great opportunity to get some brownie points in with her if you're taking (or will take) Chemistry, APES, or any of her classes!

Location!

Oops!

I see I forgot to remind that it's in the MPR at GMS.

SUNDAY Meeting Change + Help?

Hi everyone!

At the campout we had scheduled a follow-up meeting for our Journey work for this Sunday.  However, it looks like we'll need to reschedule :(

The Girl Scouts on our robotics team were invited to do STEM and robotics activities at Girl Scout Zoo Day on Sunday from 9:00-3:00PM, a few of us can't be there, and I know another Scout is scheduled for work that day and another is celebrating her mom's birthday.

HOWEVER, if one girl still wants to do scouting stuff that day, I do have one extra "Girl Scout Zoo Day" ticket for someone to help there (don't worry, you'd get breaks to wander the zoo, and lunch is provided too!) doing STEM stuff (static electricity butterflies like these:  https://iheartcraftythings.com/static-electricity-butterfly-experiment.html ) with younger scouts--let me know!

Also HOWEVER,  and very relatedly, I was talking with Brian the Library Director, and they've been having a LOT of trouble finding "books" for their human library.  If any of you are interested in being human books, or feel like you've suffered from a stigma or prejudice, I can give you his information to contact to see if this would be something appropriate for you.  There would be training and careful consideration beforehand by the library staff to make sure you weren't uncomfortable, or in any way put in a difficult situation.

As far as rescheduling, the Journey work on equity and representation advocacy, does next Sunday 10/16 work?  Same time (10:00?) or different?

Girl Scouts: camp logistics for tomorrow!

Hi everyone!

So here's our schedule for tomorrow (Saturday)

We'll meet up at 8:00PM at GHS as band is wrapping up. We'll pack up the van and head right to Silverbrook as soon as the band members are ready.

I'll have been at camp earlier and will have prepped a fire pit so when we get there we we'll light it up and have a little fire dessert (s'mores, marshmallows, fruit pies) then head in and either fall asleep or try to get some of our journey work done.

We'll sleep until we're ready to wake up Sunday, cook a campfire breakfast, do camp stuff (fish, archery, craft stuff) get back to journey work, and head out around 2:00 to be back at our house around 3:00.

See you tomorrow night!

As is traditional, there'll be the Green Corners Campout the weekend of September 9-10-11.  I'd like to use that time for our troop to focus on the Journey work we started this summer on the Advocacy for Equity Journey.  I think if we're able to focus on it for a solid block, we should be able to get the legwork done to be get a solid "Take Action" project in motion, which is the capstone of each GS Journey and will make a sustainable difference in our community.

HOWEVER, I know you're all busy.  In fact, I know at least two of you will have a commitment that Saturday morning/early afternoon, so I'm wondering what doing the campout as a Saturday evening->Sunday daytime event would look?

How many of you would be available to come to Silverbrook Saturday late afternoon/evening (think like arriving at 4:00-ish) and wrapping up around 2:00 Sunday?

Girl Scouts: Campout/Journey Work Conflicts Plan

Hi everyone!

Ok, our annual GS camp out is scheduled for this coming weekend, but so is everything else in the world!

I think the biggest conflict so far has been Band Family Night since that was Saturday evening, and just about everyone is connected to band somehow (colorgaurd, instrument, etc.)

So I'm thinking if we plan to head up Saturday after band night (whenever that ends) we can cook a camp fire dinner, do camp-y stuff, and do our journey work (equity advocacy) Sunday and still plan to be home Sunday mid afternoon (with enough time for homework).  Kathleen and I can drive folks up Saturday night and home Sunday if rides are needed.

How does that sound to everyone?

Some documents for the folks at home tonight

Hi everyone,

Here are some pdf's with a general outline of how the journey will go.  As we meet tonight, if there are pages from the book that are important I'll take pictures and send them out as needed.  We'll work through the meeting 1, and talk about meeting 2-3.

See you tonight!

If you can't make it (out of town, or COVID quarantine) here's a link to Zoom in and join us virtually so your opinions can be included.

I'll have physical copies of the Journey books at the meeting, and will find online versions and send you those links this afternoon if you're joining in virtually. We'll order pizza when you get here!

Girl Scouts: School's Out event, Cookie Prizes, Journey Work!

Good afternoon everyone!

In no particular order:

#1)  Don't forget to block out next Thursday Night for the School's Out event!  (June 9th) Girl Scouts are in charge of Face Painting! (3PM-8PM, dinner included, and you'll definitely get some time to wander and have fun at the event too.)

#2)  I have Cookie Rewards if you participated in the Cookie Sale this year.  Let me know how you want to get them.

#3)  It sounds like the best choice of Journey for us to wrap around our work with PAGE is "Your Voice, Your World" so I'll get the Journey Book for that and we can schedule a meeting to start going over it.  Starting summer, are there days/times that will generally work for people, or are there days/times that people know are always bad? (Work schedules, etc.)  For our first meeting, here are three choices, which of those can you make; please let me know ASAP!

Wednesday June 22nd 7:30PM
Friday June 24th 5:30PM
Saturday June 25th Morning
Saturday June 25th Afternoon
Saturday June 25th Evening
Sunday June 26th Morning
Sunday June 26th Afternoon
Sunday June 26th Evening

Here's the address:

6743 Hill Park CT Greendale.

I believe that we're watching a movie and discussing it and brainstorming next steps, so anticipate 2-2.5 hours. I'll verify and let you all know for sure.

See you there! (And also clean and greening Saturday!)

Hi everyone,

1). This Saturday is Greendale's Clean and Green to clean up around our community. I'd love to have a great Scout presence there!

We'll meet up at 9:00 at Daffodil Park (behind milk can) and plan to clean up until 11:00. Afterwards we'll get ice cream at Milk Can or gift of wings depending on how busy they are.

2). I also asked PAGE to do our start up work on equity on Sunday 5/22. I don't have an exact time/location yet, but plan on the afternoon/evening.

3). Finally, remember to block off the evening of the last day of school (6/9) from 3-5 to do face painting and activities at the School'sout event in downtown greendale! It counts for volunteer hours and is another way to get Girl Scouts recognized in the community.

See you Saturday!

The Greendale School's Out event that was originally created to showcase our troop's Bronze Award Bike Safety Project is coming up again, which means we'll need scouts helping out!

We don't have a bike safety project again, but I've kept the Face Painting booth open for our scouts to staff since I remember that was what they wanted to do last time it was held (2019!)

The event is June 9th from 3:00-8:00PM.  As always, dinner is on us that night!  Who's available to paint some faces?  (It counts as volunteer hours for the Greendale Education Foundation if you're banking volunteer hours too.)

Girl Scouts: Equity and Combatting Racism Opportunity

Hi!

The group PAGE (People Advocating for Greendale Equity) wants to start working on a community youth and teen equity-promoting project, and was looking to our scout troop to be part of spearheading it.

To start, they want to work with us on anti-racism badgework and learning to be pro-equity leaders in the community.

They were hoping to meet May 22 or May 29th, likely in the afternoon/evening.

Who is available the afternoon/evening of 5/22?
Who is available the afternoon/evening of 5/29?

This is a great opportunity for the girls, I hope we can make this work!

Girl Scouts: Making Pet Toys at PetPalooza again!

Hi everyone!

The village asked us to help out and provide a kids activity at PetPalooza again this year, so we'll do a repeat of last year's booth where we made pet toy crafts with kids.

It's from 10-2:00 Saturday with a group late lunch after. Who would be available to join in?

Hi everyone!

I'm making sure we have the car spaces available for this Saturday, so I need to know who's going to the cleanup that needs a ride to or from American Family Field.  Here's who signed up to attend and who I registered with MKE Riverkeepers for Shirts and supplies:

Ellen
Katie
Quinn
Evie
Carrie
Colette

Will you all need rides, or will some of you be driven + picked up from AFF?  (For example, Quinn--will you be riding with Riess?)

If you need a ride, we'll meet at our house at 8:30.  If you're meeting there, try to find us around 8:55-ish at AFF.  (We should be somewhere South of the Tailgate Haus in Gantner parking area.)

Thanks, and see you Saturday!  Let's hope for good weather!

Girl Scouts: Saturday April 9th

Hi everyone!

The girls that helped at the recruitment event today impressed Girl Scouts so much, they asked us to come back next week!

Is anyone available 10-12:00 Saturday April 9th, to go to Frame Park in Waukesha?  (Ride provided if needed, and we'll have some lunch afterwards too.)

Girl Scouts: Next Sunday!

Hi everyone!

Girl Scouts asked if we would be interested in helping at a recruitment event for 4-5 year olds next Sunday from 10-12:00 at Henry Miller Park Pavillion in Oak Creek.

Who's available then—it should be a lot of fun working with the little ones. If you need a ride, we can provide!

Hi everyone,

I was at Girl Scouts HQ today and asked about Saturday. Based on last week, they had actually considered canceling the doordash "booth" (apparently no one actually doordashed anything last week) and did cancel media visits. (Though our troop is first on the list to call if they need girls to talk on TV!)

They asked if we wanted to skip this week and I told them they should keep DoorDash set up and open for the evening, and we'd probably just drop down to 1-2 girls and have Girl Scouts leave us a list of work we can do around the HQ as volunteers if it is a repeat of last week. (No one else will be there; they're just leaving us a key card and the door dash tablet for incoming orders.)

So, of the girls that had signed up for Saturday:  does anyone desperately want to go? Will anyone be heartbroken if they get to skip it?

Hi everyone!

Just a quick Cookie Update:

If you sent me your order by 2/15, I have your Cookies....mostly.  Peanut Butter Sandwiches still haven't been delivered, so I don't have those.
Orders that were added on after that I hope to have by the end of the week....mostly.  In addition to the PBS's that never showed up in the first place, Caramel Delites were shorted at Girl Scouts, so they're out for the moment, but hope to have them today or tomorrow.

If you still want to place an order, I can still make that happen, with the notes above (i.e. Peanut Butter Sandwich delivery is up in the air, and potentially Caramel Delites)

Next:

I had a couple girls sign up for the event on 3/12 where we fill DoorDash deliveries and potentially get interviewed by TV/Radio stations.  It's 2:00-5:30 Saturday 3/12.  Let me know ASAP if you're interested.  The DoorDash deliveries are treated like a cookie booth, so anything we fill gets added to your totals!  There'll be media training this week so the girls that are interested know how to best handle the cameras!

I have Evie, Colette, and Ellen on the list.  Anyone else?
