Girl Scouts: Free Wisconsin Weekend June 7-8

Hello,

Just a quick bit of information that I think a lot of our scouts might enjoy:

June 7-8 is a DNR Free Wisconsin Weekend.  What that means is that there's free admission to all state parks and forests, free use of DNR trails, and you can go fishing for free without a license (you still have to follow all the fishing rules about catch limits, etc.).

Girl Scouts: Troop 8035 Campout in Whitnall Park--Coming Up Soon!

Hello again!

I just wanted to remind everyone to sign up for a campout spot!  We'll be back at Ross Lodge in Whitnall Park (across from the golf course on 92nd Street) and have a couple weekends to choose from. (July 6-9th, and 20-22nd)    You can choose to stay overnight, or just join in the activities on Saturday.  Since it's so close to home, feel free to come and go if you need to.  Parents are welcome, but not required--we have our safety-wise kid-to-adult ratios well covered.

We've had amazing times in the past, and as the girls get older, we can do more and more.  I've already let the cat out of the bag on some of our projects:  We'll be making ovens from cardboard boxes and actually cooking in them, we'll make hobo-stoves from tin cans, we'll do storytelling, and singing, and nature hikes and scavenger hunts.  And of course we'll do all the marshmallow roasting and s'mores cooking that we can!  We'll also have some indoor crafts to work on when it's time to wind down, and a midnight-glow-stick-hike to see what it's like at night in the woods.

Girl Scouts: Last Chance to Submit a Design Idea for Next September's Camp Shirt

Hello!

I have to bring any finished designs with me to the May 15th Troop Leaders' meeting, so if your scout wants to get creative and submit a design for the September Service Area Campout T-Shirt, send it to me quickly! (Last year's was the waving pineapple t-shirt we tie-dyed.)

Keep it just black and white, and keep in mind this will be the shirt we tie-dye.  The theme this year is "The Wild West," so keep that in mind in your design.  I included the template as an attached .jpg.

Girl Scouts: I hope we didn't miss anyone else

Hello everyone!

Thanks to one super-diligent family, I just realized that yesterday was the 2nd Thursday in May, which means we missed the first Bay View Beach Cleanup.  This April and May have been so busy!  If you were there and were looking for us, I'm sorry that we weren't there.  BUT, as with all our Girl Scout events, I do have a patch for you.  So let me know if you went, and I'll get the patch to you.  Also, College Park scouts, keep an eye on your take-home folders for your "Recycling Rocks" patch that I'm dropping off in the office to go home today.  

Kelly will be sending an email out soon too with details and information about the Key Lime Cove trip next week Friday-Saturday, and we'll make sure rides, etc. are arranged, so look for that too.

Finally, speaking of waterparks, a while ago I mentioned the June 14th Girl Scout Trip to Noah's Ark.  A few of you said you might be interested.  I need to get registrations in by May 15th, so here are the details again.  Let me know if you want me to sign your scout up:

Troops that increased the number of girl members this year are elibigle for discounted admission. Visit the Wisconsin Dells and enjoy a day of splash-tastic fun in America's Largest Water Park. $27.00 per person; includes bus transportation, admission to waterpark, and lunch (hotdog, chips, and soda). A bus schedule, including pick-up and drop-off times, will be sent to you in your event confirmation.

Bus space is limited, we ask that troops only register the required number of adults to meet Safety-Wise ratios. No Tagalongs*.

Girl Scouts: Tonight and Tomorrow

Hello everyone!

I just got back from picking up a bunch of patches for girls who come to see democracy in action tonight at the joint Village/School Board meeting.  It starts at 6:00 at the Safety Building--hope to see you there!  I would love it if parents could stay too--since they're discussing things that affect our schools, you might even want to say something and show your scout how easy it is to be an active part in the way our community is run!

I also picked up the patches for the Innovation Creator event on Wednesday at Discovery World--there's still room for one girl to go.  You can either bring her to Discovery World at 5:00, or we can drive her if you meet us at highland View at 4:20.  We expect to be back at 8:30-ish, after learning about how real designs turn into real inventions and using real design and machine tools to turn our personal ideas into actual inventions.

Girl Scouts: An open spot for Discovery World on Wednesday

Hello everyone!

A few months ago some of you signed up for the Discovery World "Innovation Creator" workshop coming up this Wednesday.  Space at Discovery World filled up fast, but one of the girls who had planned to go from our troop can't now, so there's one spot available.  It's already paid for, so whoever gets back to me first can go.  It's from 5-8, at Discovery world.  There is room in our car to carpool if needed.  We're meeting in the Highland View parking lot at 4:20, and anticipate getting back a little after 8:30 (based on how these events have worked in the past.)

Here was the event description: "Turn your idea into a real-life product and become the next big innovator. Learn the design process and use professional design tools to turn your ideas and sketches into products."
