Girl Scouts: More space for the Discovery World Sleepover

We had another cancellation for the Discovery World "Spa Chemistry" Sleepover event this Friday to Saturday.

As you know I hate to leave open spots!  Is there anyone interested in going that wasn't signed up already?

Hello scout families!

A few things about the Discovery World Sleepover this Friday to Saturday:

First, we had an early cancellation, so there's a spot for an extra girl.  If a parent wants to go with, I had accidentally over-registered parents, so we can get you in too.  (If you're not yet registered as an adult member of Girl Scouts, we'll have to do that though.)

Second, trip details:  For this event, the scouts will meet up AT DISCOVERY WORLD at 6:30.  Please stay with your scout until you've had a chance to contact Ms. Kelly and make the "hand off" directly.

Pickup will be AT DISCOVERY WORLD at 7:00 am.  You should be able to pull right up around the circle in front of the front door to make a pick up.

I've attached two forms for you to fill out.  The first is the Discovery World photo release form.  There is a chance your daughter will get her picture taken while she's doing DW activities (petting sharks, laying on a bed of nails, etc.).  The second is the standard GS permission slip.  Please fill both out and bring them with you on Friday!

Packing List:

Sleeping bag and pillow (adults may bring air mattress or cot, as there is limited space available)

Pajamas and slippers

Flashlight

Change of clothes for next day

Toiletries

Water bottle with your name on it

Eating Information:

Discovery World will provide a small snack on Friday night with items like pretzels/goldfish and juice/water. A breakfast will be served on Saturday morning consisting of muffins, juice, and bars. No food is allowed in the exhibits or sleeping areas. There is a soda/water vending machine available the entire evening, but drinks may not be brought into the exhibit, theater, and lab areas. We do not serve anything containing actual whole nuts. If you have any specific dietary needs, please let us know in advance. You are more than welcome to bring additional snacks, however your personal food cannot be eaten any place but the promenade.

Activities:

The schedule for the event looks like this (at the moment)  Discovery World may change things up a little bit, but not too much:

7:00-7:15pm     Drop Off Supplies, Orientation 

7:15-10:00     Explore!

· The technology building and Aquatarium will be open, along with the Kohl's Design It! lab 

· Girls will have two 30 minute labs during this time

10:00-10:30     Snack on the Promenade

10:45-12:30     Movie Time in our Theaters

12:30         Head to Bed

6:00am     Breakfast along the Promenade

6:45         Pack up to head home

7:00am     Sleepover Ends

From Discovery World:  "The evening's events do include a movie. We will be watching Night At The Museum: Battle Of The Smithsonian. This movie is rated PG and we feel it's entertaining and educational for the girl scouts of all ages. Adults need to be with girls in the theater during the movie. If you do not wish to watch the movie, you are more than welcome to head to bed early or spend time on the promenade doing quiet activities with adult supervision."

Have a great time!  We sure enjoyed it in February!

Girl Scouts: Extra driver for Robot Competition on Friday?

Hi everyone!

At the moment all the spots in cars driving to the Robotics competition are filled up, but there are two (maybe 3) more scouts that would really like to go.  

Are there any other scout families that would be able to go this Friday (9:30-1:30) and could fit 2-3 scouts in their vehicle?  I hate to turn anyone down!

Thank you so much!  (And this event is open to anyone, if there are brothers/sisters that would like to come along too.  It really is a lot of fun.  And the chance to meet the robot builders in the "pits" and ask them questions is a neat experience for the girls.

Just a reminder: World Thinking Day event was cancelled 3/20

Hi,

I emailed this once before, but since the day is approaching, I want to make sure everyone who had been interested gets a reminder:

Since only our troop and one other had signed up for the World Thinking Day event at Whitnall Middle School on the 20th, the organizer cancelled the event.  So Friday evening is back open.

Like I said before too:  February and March had more event cancellations than we've had in the previous three years COMBINED, so I'm hoping we're getting it out of the system, and will be back on track to keeping the fun rolling!

Note:  Only the World Thinking Day event was cancelled.  If you were registered for the Discovery World Sleepover on the 20th, that is still happening (and awesome!)

In summary, this Friday, 3/20:

World Thinking Day at night is CANCELLED

Discovery World Sleepover is STILL ON

Robot Competition during the day is STILL ON

Girl Scouts: Anyone else for the Robot Competition on Friday? (Timeline)

Hi,

I just wanted to check in and finalize details of going to the FIRST Robotics competition on Friday.

My plan is to head out from our house at 9:30, and be back around 1:30.  So far I have:

as going.  That means I can fit one more girl in our van before we need an extra driver.  Is anyone else interested?

Girl Scouts: Meeting Room Thursday

IMPORTANT: HIGHLAND VIEW GIRL SCOUTS

Hello,

This is really mostly important for the Highland View Scout Families:

If your scout is coming to the meeting tomorrow (Thursday 3.12) it is super important that someone knows your scout is staying at school.  If your scout usually goes home on the bus, and is not on the sign up list ( here ), or doesn't have the meeting listed in their agenda then we have to send them home on the bus.  

I'm only mentioning this because there are still a lot of scouts that haven't marked down for either meeting this month--tomorrow 3.12 or Wednesday 3.18 .  

College Park/Canterbury/Whitnall scouts, we assume that if you bring your scout to the meeting, then you know your scout is coming to the meeting :) .
