Hi everyone!
March is cruising by! First of all, thanks to the girls who helped out at Highland View STEAMfest last Friday. The little kids love seeing the big kids there and it makes the science so much more approachable for them!
1) Don't forget our March Meeting is THIS WEDNESDAY 3/13. 3:00-4:30
Officially it was supposed to be a planning/work meeting, but we got ahead of ourselves last month, so it'll be all fun this month! Hopefully the girls remember the sections they wanted to lead:
Evangeline + Kendra: Find an athlete who could visit our meeting and interview them at the meeting about being an athlete. The girls have ideas of people to ask. NOTE: If no one found an athlete, there's no rush on this. We could hold on until April. But hopefully everyone is thinking about their contacts and who they might know that would talk to the girls about being an athlete and showing good sportsmanship on the big stages!
Ellen + Evie (1) : Make an obstacle course challenge for the scouts to do blindfolded to learn communication and teamwork.
Ellen + Evie (2) : Find a competitive game for us to go watch as a troop. Looking at the upcoming GHS schedule, they surveyed the girls at the meeting to decide whether we should watch a GHS girls soccer game or a GHS boys baseball game. The girls decided that girls soccer would be their choice. And found that their first game is at GHS Gavinsky Stadium on April 1st 4:30 JV or 6:30 Varsity. We'll decide which to watch as it gets a little closer.
Carrie + Quinn + Teagan: Choose a female athlete and teach us about her. They chose Serena Williams. Carrie will be teaching us about interesting facts, special details, and general information about Serena, Teagan will teach us about Serena's family and history, and Quinn will teach us about her career and professional accomplishments.
With any time we have left after learning about Serena Williams and after doing some obstacle course teambuilding challenges, we'll devote to girl scout games and just focus on fun. We did a lot of work lately, so this will be a good break.
2) NO MARCH MEETING ON 3/20 because we'll be out of town.
3) Robotics Competition 3/29 A couple girls suggested going to visit the Regional Robotics Competition at the UWM Panther Arena again this year. (I think we skipped last year?)
We have off from school on Friday 3/29 the first full day of competition, so the timing is PERFECT. In the past we've gone before lunch, watched some competitions (this years competition: Deep Space! Check out the demo video here: https://youtu.be/Mew6G_og-PI ), then visited the "Pit Area" and talked with the robotics teams and saw the robots up close, then headed to Grand Avenue for lunch, before coming home. If we planned to get there around 10:00, we could have lunch around noon, and be back home by 1:30-1:45.
Who would be interested and available to join in?
See you Wednesday!
Aleks
