Girl Scouts: Yesterday meeting scouts--did anyone get an extra lunch bag?

Hi!

One of our scouts is missing a lunch bag (magenta with a diamond design).  Did anyone discover an extra lunch bag at home?

Thanks!

Girl Scouts: Last minute scheduling!

Hello Scouts!

I know a lot of you are soccer families, but even if you're not this is a great event.  We did it a couple of years ago, and the girls had a bunch of fun.

UWM is hosting a Girl Scout game on October 11th at 4:00.  $3.00 gets you (adults and kids!) a ticket, a hot dog, a soda, and a patch!

I MAY need other parents to head this up we go as a group though.  I can order the tickets, etc. and they'll all be available at will-call, BUT our own soccer team will be playing in a tournament that weekend and may have a game at that time--the schedule for the tournament hasn't been released yet.

I just got this, and don't see a registration deadline listed, but I would need to know fairly soon who's interested in going.  Our soccer team's schedule for that weekend should be available to us hopefully by the end of next week, so I won't send our registration in at least until after that.

Good Afternoon,
The Panthers are welcoming Girl Scouts to campus once again this season, giving members and their families that chance to cheer on Milwaukee!
There are two opportunities in the Fall to catch Panther women's soccer and volleyball.  On Saturday, October 11th women's soccer will take on Wright State at Engelmann Stadium at 4pm and volleyball will take on Oakland at the Klotsche Center Saturday, October 18th at 4pm with a free post game clinic following the match.
Each Girl Scout will receive: a ticket to the game, a hot dog, soda and special Panther patch. Plus each troop will receive special public address recognition/announcements and the opportunity to participate in a halftime or in-game promotion. All of this is just $3 per ticket!
For more information please see the attached flyer for both events or call the Panther Ticket Office at 414.229.5886.

Girl Scouts: Live and Learn?

Hello scouts!

That was a fun meeting, but let me quickly apologize for sending the wet t-shirts home loose!  (I'm usually good about anticipating things, but when I was looking this up, no one warned me about bringing the shirts home, and I didn't even think about how to get them home!)  Thanks for your consideration, and I hope most of the shirts made it home without incident!

The idea behind them was to have a "sash" they could wear to meetings/etc. without worrying about getting it dirty or losing patches.  The girls did a great job decorating their shirts and making each one a truly unique piece of art.

In any event, the shirts should be dry in 3 more hours, and should be ready for laundering (inside out is best) in 72 hours.

It was great to talk with the girls about what they want to do this year.  They had a lot of great ideas, that I'm looking forward to putting into action!

I've included the list of activities we're looking at for the year again, so if you see any I should really make sure to focus on or specific dates I should pick, let me know as soon as possible.

Thanks again, and sorry again!

Girl Scouts: Preliminary Activities for This Year

Hello Scout Families!

I've been going through and putting together a pretty big list of activities the girls might enjoy this year.  Many have multiple date availabilities, and I haven't put this all on a calendar yet to spread things out appropriately BUT, I wanted to get this list out to you right away, so you can start to get a feel for what we'll be doing this year.  It's attached!

A few jobs for you:

1)  If you see an event your scout would LOVE to particitpate in, and it has multiple dates, let me know if there are any I should avoid.
2)  If you know of other events that our scouts would enjoy, let me know, and I'll work them in too!

Beyond that, I'll get this sorted and winnow it down to one event per month beyond our meetings. (Two if they look AWESOME.)  And we'll have our schedule.

Also, I just grabbed the 3rd complete Wednesday and Thursday pair of each month for meetings--HOWEVER I didn't check this with the school schedule, so it's possible at this very moment, I have a meeting scheduled for an off day.  Assume that in the final draft, I'll fix that.  Expect a final draft soon.

Finally, some of you haven't signed up for a meeting preference this week!  Please do!

Girl Scouts: A couple quick notes and reminders

Hello!

Gloves, bags, and pickers are provided (and dinner at Classic Slice if you want to stick around.)  You don't have to stay the whole time either, but I do recommend going.

Remember the Girl Scout Law:

I will do my best to be
honest and fair,
friendly and helpful,
considerate and caring,
courageous and strong, and
responsible for what I say and do,
and to
respect myself and others,
respect authority,
use resources wisely,
make the world a better place, and
be a sister to every Girl Scout.

Second: Make sure to sign up for your meeting choice for next week on the Sign Up Genius Page ASAP.  It makes it a lot easier for us when we know ahead of time how many scouts to expect--that way we can have the right number of things like snacks, crafts, etc. Sign up here:  http://www.signupgenius.com/go/10c0a4fa5ad22a13-september

Finally:  If you haven't renewed your membership for the year, you can do it here:  https://gsusa.ebiz.uapps.net/VP/Default.aspx?pid=3
or at the meeting--I'll bring paper forms.  There is financial aid available to cover the membership fee if you request it.  Just let me know!

See you soon!

3)  Camp Rules and Reminders:
· Remember the Girl Scout Promise and Law*
· Leave camp better than you found it.  Clean up after ourselves.
· No alcohol at camp—it will result in the dismissal of the entire troop.
· All campers MUST wear tennis shoes and socks.  Flip flops are ONLY allowed at the waterfront during a swimming session.
· Everyone is encouraged to bring refillable water bottles.  There will be water stations around camp for refilling.
· Sunscreen, hats, and bug spray are encouraged.
· Bring a towel, and swimsuit if your scout plans on swimming.  It's also handy to bring a plastic bag to put the wet towel and swimsuit in afterwards.
· Hair MUST be tied back around the campfires.  All campers must have feet on the ground around the fire ring.  (No walking on benches, or cartwheels around the fire!)
· There is no running around camp except during approved activities—there are many natural hazards that can cause injury.  (Roots, vines, rocks, animal holes, etc.)
· In the event of lightning, seek shelter IMMEDIATELY.  It is safe to return outside 30 minutes after the last visible lightning is seen.
· Do not bring valuable items to camp.  GSWISE, Green Corners, and Girl Scouts are not responsible for lost or stolen items.

After we're done tie-dying our shirts, we may choose to leave them in zip-loc bags at the tie-dying station.  Remember to pick them up at the end of the night!

Speaking of tie-dying:  PLEASE pre-tie your t-shirts with rubber bands.  This saves a lot of time and trouble at the tie-dye station.  Luckily our troop is doing tie-dying first, so we won't have to carry the shirts around too long.  I'll send home rubber bands and zip-loc bags with the t-shirts the first week of school.

If your scout wants to try some fancy tie-dye paterns, feel free to try the ideas here:  http://www.wikihow.com/Tie-Dye-a-Shirt

4)  Carpool Assignments

Girl Scouts: Beach Cleanup This Thursday, Plus September Meeting Coming Up

Hello again!

First:  This Thursday (9/11) is the last Beach Cleanup for the year.  I hate to sound like a broken record, but this is really a great opportunity for the girls to get a feel for community service.  It's fun, it's easy, it's relaxing for parents, and it comes with free pizza afterwards.  Because I'll be soccer coaching for the first part of the cleanup, I need to know who'll be attending so Ms. Kelly can know who to expect.  As always, there are patches involved too.  It's never to early to show the girls that it's rewarding to make the world a better place, and show them the value of responsibility and sharing.  The beach cleanup details are here:  http://www.bayviewneighborhood.org/clean-ups  It's at bay View Beach, which is on Superior, just south of Oklahoma, across the street from the Marian Center.  The cleanup generally runs from 6:30-8:00.  If anyone wants to go after soccer practice (ending at 6:45), I'll be taking Evie, and would be happy to shuttle any extra cleaners!

Second:  We're going to have our September meetings on Wednesday September 17th and Thursday September 18th in the usual time and place--Highland View room 103 (Mrs. Bushman's room) after school until 5:00. Like last year, those will be identical meetings, so each girl only has to attend one or the other. Sign Up here:  http://www.signupgenius.com/go/10c0a4fa5ad22a13-september and of course as usual we don't start the action until our friends from all our schools are there!

We'll have the girls talk about and decide what they'd like to do for the year, and I'll also get a preliminary calendar out for the year.  I also have some ideas for new-school-year projects for the girls to do, and will have registration forms available for anyone who hasn't re-registered for this year yet.  Because we're still working around Ms. Kelly's new schedule, I'll really need an extra parent helper at those two meetings--I included a spot in the signup genius page if you can make it.  I'll also be getting information from you parents about different meeting times for the year and options Ms. Kelly and I have been considering to try and make meetings more accessible for everyone.

Finally, at the meeting we'll also get nut sale materials out to everyone.  If you've been with us, you know we try to keep your expenses to a minimum, or even non-existant.  The two ways we do that is through the candy/nut sale in fall, and cookie sale in winter.  If you can participate that would be fantastic, and of course they make great gifts!

Thanks a million, and see you soon!
