Hello again!
First: This Thursday (9/11) is the last Beach Cleanup for the year. I hate to sound like a broken record, but this is really a great opportunity for the girls to get a feel for community service. It's fun, it's easy, it's relaxing for parents, and it comes with free pizza afterwards. Because I'll be soccer coaching for the first part of the cleanup, I need to know who'll be attending so Ms. Kelly can know who to expect. As always, there are patches involved too. It's never to early to show the girls that it's rewarding to make the world a better place, and show them the value of responsibility and sharing. The beach cleanup details are here: http://www.bayviewneighborhood.org/clean-ups It's at bay View Beach, which is on Superior, just south of Oklahoma, across the street from the Marian Center. The cleanup generally runs from 6:30-8:00. If anyone wants to go after soccer practice (ending at 6:45), I'll be taking Evie, and would be happy to shuttle any extra cleaners!
Second: We're going to have our September meetings on Wednesday September 17th and Thursday September 18th in the usual time and place--Highland View room 103 (Mrs. Bushman's room) after school until 5:00. Like last year, those will be identical meetings, so each girl only has to attend one or the other. Sign Up here: http://www.signupgenius.com/go/10c0a4fa5ad22a13-september and of course as usual we don't start the action until our friends from all our schools are there!
We'll have the girls talk about and decide what they'd like to do for the year, and I'll also get a preliminary calendar out for the year. I also have some ideas for new-school-year projects for the girls to do, and will have registration forms available for anyone who hasn't re-registered for this year yet. Because we're still working around Ms. Kelly's new schedule, I'll really need an extra parent helper at those two meetings--I included a spot in the signup genius page if you can make it. I'll also be getting information from you parents about different meeting times for the year and options Ms. Kelly and I have been considering to try and make meetings more accessible for everyone.
Finally, at the meeting we'll also get nut sale materials out to everyone. If you've been with us, you know we try to keep your expenses to a minimum, or even non-existant. The two ways we do that is through the candy/nut sale in fall, and cookie sale in winter. If you can participate that would be fantastic, and of course they make great gifts!
Thanks a million, and see you soon!
Aleks Skibicki
