There are booths that need leaders that include:

Sharing stories of joy and strength,
Creating bookmarks tied into the Girl Scout Promise,
Planting trees,
Making "source of strength" necklaces.

It's November 28th, 6:15-8:30; anyone available?

2)  We still have a hefty bank account to spend on you scouts, and time is running out to do it!  Still looking for ideas.  If most of you are available that Thursday 11/28, maybe we get together before the event to talk ideas?

Girl Scout Zoo Day and How to use our budget?

Hi everyone!

Just following up.  We have Girl Scout Zoo Day coming up 10/15, and could use a couple girls to help out.  It's always fun!

And I'm still looking for plans to use up some of the money you all have saved through the years!

Girl Scouts: Friday Event, Gold Award Update re: Format and Homework

Hi everyone!

First:  Reminder we're doing Face Painting at the School's Out Event on Friday 3-8!  Wear clothes you don't mind getting painted (I remember last year!)  Please let me know ASAP about your attendance (Yes or No)

Second:  Thanks for a pretty productive Sunday Morning.  The girls there got solid ideas, dug down into root causes, and built a list of names to be Gold Award Advisors for each.

Here's the homework we talked about at the end of the event.  When you get these 7 done, we'll get them into the official Highest Award application, and set up your appointment with Girl Scouts to get your proposal reviewed for approval.

Make a Google Doc that includes:

1)  The problem you decided to try to solve.  The problem has to have a specific harm you addressing.  Include 2-4 paragraphs describing the problem, the harm it causes (to individuals, the planet, etc.), and include research to find at least 3 "numbers" or statistics to include in your description.  (For example, if the problem was women being underrepresented in STEM you could include the % of women entering STEM fields or enrolled/completing STEM majors in college and the reasons why having greater representation of women in STEM fields is advantageous, etc.)

2)  A 2-3 level "deep dig" on the root causes of the problem in #1.  (I.e. What is a cause, of a cause, of the cause for the problem. For example: if the problem is discrimination against the LGBTQ+ community, a surface cause could be that people don't know that there are LGBTQ+ people in the community, a cause of that could be that LGBTQ+ people aren't represented in the art/decoration/media around the village.

3)  A description of your project idea.

4)  A 2-3 paragraph description of how your project addresses the deeper/root cause you identified in #2.  If possible, research and statistics will make this much stronger too. (For example:  In a study done by group X, they found that when people learned that someone they knew was LGBTQ+, they were X% more likely to change their attitudes towards that community.)

5)  National/Global Links:  Names of organizations that work with your issue on a national or global level, or national/global projects that are also tackling your issue.  Include a plan to reach out tot hese organizations for advice, information, etc.  Also include why your issue IS a national/global issue, and not just something only affecting your individual school/village--once again, research is a great addition here.  (Your project  doesn't have to solve your issue on a National/Global level, just show how it is an issue that is "big.")

6)  Potential Advisors:  3 Names of people who have expertise in a field related to your project, and their contact information.  Prepare a plan to reach out to them about being your Gold Award Advisor.  Note:  these cannot be parents or Girl Scout adult volunteers.

7)  Potential Award Team:  The Gold Award is all about leadership and leading a team.  Put together  a list of as many people as possible that you could potentially bring together to work on your project under your leadership.

Girl Scouts: Gold and PatchPalooza Sunday

Hi everyone,

First:  Thanks to the girls who went to the celebrate the promise event yesterday--you were stars!  I've already heard from people about how impressed they were, and they invited us to handle the Girl Scout area at Discovery World's Women in STEM event next year--and are giving us a cookie booth there too!

Second:  No one replied about a Gold Award Day Sunday, but the girls at Celebrate the Promise talked, and we'll plan on getting together from 10:00-11:30 Sunday morning.  On the agenda:  Finalize initial ideas, brainstorm potential teams, and put together lists of Award Advisors for each girl to reach out to to.  Also:  we'll crack open my bag of leftover patches and girls can replace any they're missing or collect any they think are appropriate.

Please let me know if you can join us Sunday morning!

One more for the art girls!

The Fun Run is doing its "Design the T-Shirt" contest again.  If you're feeling creative, here's the entry form!

June 1st "Celebrate the Promise" Event, Board Member Application, Gold Awards

Hi Girl Scouts!

Just a few notes for everyone:

#1)  Gold Awards:  My goal for you all is to have your Gold Awards completed before it's time for you to apply for your colleges because it can be a big help!  I think it would also be cool to get you all recognized by the School District and Village.  So that means we have to get on it!  How does next Sunday sound for a Gold Award Picnic and Planning Day?  I'd have to wrap up before 4:00, but any time before that is great.  We would:
Pick ideas
Make sure you each have several potential Award Advisors to ask and have your "asks" ready for them
Brainstorm a list of where to find members for your Award Team
If it looks ready, we could even submit your first proposal to the Award Portal
(We would also do the patch-palooza I talked about at Pet Palooza to refill your sashes with patches and replace any missing ones.)

#2)  Speaking of finding Award Advisors and Team Members, we can use one or two more people to join in the Celebrate the Promise event June 1st.  (I only have Katie and Evie so far; one more would be perfect, and 2 more would be stellar!)   It is the biggest collection of Milwaukee pro-Girl bigwigs of the year, both from scouts and from the business and professional world so it is a fantastic time to make connections (and it's always about who you know, not what you know!) We'd probably head to Discovery World to setup right after school that day, and they're serving dinner so you wouldn't need to worry about anything to eat.  It runs until 7:30 that evening.  Even more perfectly, it will also be a great way to get your face in front of the people who will be deciding on who is accepted as GSWISE Governing Board Members which is the next bullet for this email:

#3)  The GSWISE Board of Directors includes Girl Scouts in full voting capacity.  These scouts get to work directly with the C-suite level Girl Scout executives, but also with the top executives from other major companies that serve on the GSWISE Board.  It is an amazing experience!

Here's the call for board member applications:

Hello Girl Scout –

Looking for a unique leadership experience? Your vote will count as you help Girl Scouts of Wisconsin Southeast (GSWISE) make decisions that will have long-lasting effects.

GSWISE is accepting applications for the position of Girl Board Member to serve on the Board of Directors for a one-year term with full voting privileges beginning October 1, 2023.

What does a Girl Board Member do? Girl board members attend board meetings to discuss and vote on matters that affect GSWISE. They work alongside other board members (professionals and staff) who are as passionate as you are about Girl Scouting.

Who can apply? Girls must be registered Girl Scouts, high school sophomores or above, and 14 years old or older by October 1, 2023.

How do girls apply? Apply online

Deadline to Apply: Applications must be received by Wednesday, June 7, 2023 at 11:59 p.m.

Questions? Contact us at 800-565-4475 or customercare@gswise.org.

Re: Girl Scouts: Upcoming events and activities!

Just a reminder we have PetPalooza tomorrow!  (10-2)

If you're there, we can talk about Gold Projects during quiet times and see if there's anything the troop can do to help out (helping put the team together, fundraise, etc.)

Hi everyone!

There's a lot of great stuff to "spring" into action with coming up!

1)  Since the beach cleanup was pretty rough (rain, snow, AND hail in the first hour alone!) there's another great volunteer activity that would be fun and fits our troop traditions well:  Grant Park's Weed-Out!  This Saturday, May 6th from 9:00-11:30, folks are pulling invasive species out of Grant Park.  We'll meet at the "Tennis Court Parking Lot" which I believe is here:  https://goo.gl/maps/GUWSxCWonvQAvbLq6 .  Let me know if you're coming and I'll bring gloves and tools for you!

Here's the description from Grant Park:  Join the Friends of Grant Park each spring and fall as we work to remove invasive weeds that threaten our park's plant diversity. If you would like to participate, even if only for a portion of the morning,  come prepared to work: we recommend wearing a long sleeve shirt, long pants, socks and sturdy shoes (long pants and socks are good for tick prevention). If you have a pair of sturdy work gloves, bring them along (gloves provided if you don't have a pair).

Afterward, we'll hang out and have lunch at a restaurant TBD, and check in on Gold Award progress.  Have you brainstormed some ideas? Do you have teams (or at least potential teams) prepared? Have you started the planning pages? We can even get started on some of that right there, especially helping put together teams for you!

2)  There are three events our troop typically participates in coming up as well:

Please let me know both whether you can OR can't go to all of these so I can plan accordingly!  (Parents are welcome too, and I think the Grant Park Weed-Out would be fun for everyone!)

A)  PetPalooza March 13th from 10:00-2:00.  We have been making pet toys with kids at PetPalooza for years, so let's keep it running!  As always, there's a budget for lunch for anyoneone helping out, and I'm pretty sure everyone's always had a good time doing it.  We can sign that one off as Girl Scout or Village of Greendale service hours.

B)  School's Out Event June 9th, 3:00-8:00 PM.  We've traditionally done face painting there, and we'll keep that rolling too--make sure to wear clothes you don't mind getting painted!

C)  Greendale Clean and Green May 20th, 9-11:00 AM.  We've done this for the last couple of years, and it's a lot of fun to help clean up right around home here.  As always, we'll grab ice cream or lunch afterward, depending on the mood of the group!

Please let me know both whether you con OR can't go to all of these so I can plan accordingly!  (Parents are welcome too, and I think the Grant Park Weed-Out would be fun for everyone!)

Still looking for a date to do something fun! Also: Girl Scout SONG Contest!

Hi everyone,

#1)  A couple notes:  I only heard from one person about potential dates to do something fun for a meeting.  If you have ideas, please share.  Tubing again? Escape Room again? Splatter party? Something new?  Waffle party?  Just hang out time?

What days of the week are generally free for everyone?  Tuesday/Thursday/Friday/Saturday/Sunday evenings ok?

#2)  Short timeline, but if anyone's interested in getting some scouts together together before Monday to do this, that would be awesome:

Girl Scout Cookie Musical Parody Contest

If you love Girl Scout Cookies and singing, it's time to get artistic and create a Girl Scout Cookie Musical Parody! Either sing by yourself or gather up with other Girl Scouts, choose any song, add your cookie-themed spin to it (new lyrics, props, etc.), and submit your video. The top three parody videos submitted will be featured in our upcoming Virtual Cookie Rally! (Note that submitters will need to save the video file in a cloud-based storage space and share the direct link to the video file with council.)

Submit Parody by January 16
