Hi Girl Scouts!
Just a few notes for everyone:
#1) Gold Awards: My goal for you all is to have your Gold Awards completed before it's time for you to apply for your colleges because it can be a big help! I think it would also be cool to get you all recognized by the School District and Village. So that means we have to get on it! How does next Sunday sound for a Gold Award Picnic and Planning Day? I'd have to wrap up before 4:00, but any time before that is great. We would:
Pick ideas
Make sure you each have several potential Award Advisors to ask and have your "asks" ready for them
Brainstorm a list of where to find members for your Award Team
If it looks ready, we could even submit your first proposal to the Award Portal
(We would also do the patch-palooza I talked about at Pet Palooza to refill your sashes with patches and replace any missing ones.)
#2) Speaking of finding Award Advisors and Team Members, we can use one or two more people to join in the Celebrate the Promise event June 1st. (I only have Katie and Evie so far; one more would be perfect, and 2 more would be stellar!) It is the biggest collection of Milwaukee pro-Girl bigwigs of the year, both from scouts and from the business and professional world so it is a fantastic time to make connections (and it's always about who you know, not what you know!) We'd probably head to Discovery World to setup right after school that day, and they're serving dinner so you wouldn't need to worry about anything to eat. It runs until 7:30 that evening. Even more perfectly, it will also be a great way to get your face in front of the people who will be deciding on who is accepted as GSWISE Governing Board Members which is the next bullet for this email:
#3) The GSWISE Board of Directors includes Girl Scouts in full voting capacity. These scouts get to work directly with the C-suite level Girl Scout executives, but also with the top executives from other major companies that serve on the GSWISE Board. It is an amazing experience!
Here's the call for board member applications:
Hello Girl Scout –
Looking for a unique leadership experience? Your vote will count as you help Girl Scouts of Wisconsin Southeast (GSWISE) make decisions that will have long-lasting effects.
GSWISE is accepting applications for the position of Girl Board Member to serve on the Board of Directors for a one-year term with full voting privileges beginning October 1, 2023.
What does a Girl Board Member do? Girl board members attend board meetings to discuss and vote on matters that affect GSWISE. They work alongside other board members (professionals and staff) who are as passionate as you are about Girl Scouting.
Who can apply? Girls must be registered Girl Scouts, high school sophomores or above, and 14 years old or older by October 1, 2023.
How do girls apply? Apply online
Deadline to Apply: Applications must be received by Wednesday, June 7, 2023 at 11:59 p.m.
