Girl Scouts: What you've all been waiting for!

Hi everyone!

OK, a short-ish email today.  But, it ends with some very important news!

1)  First, we're starting out 2016-2017 with a great meeting!  The girls are really learning to take charge and work on their own!

We started by putting together formal proposals for projects to acheive our Bronze Award goal of getting kids to wear their bike helmets.  The girls came up with proposals that included a specific goal, a list of potential community partnerships, a list of materials they would require, and a step by step process to implement their program.  I'm in the process of putting the proposals on line, and when all of our meetings for September are done, I'll put all the proposals out there so all the girls can look through them.  Then, BEFORE our October meeting, the girls will vote online (parent input/involvement allowed, but the final choice is up to the girls!) so we can start October meetings right away working on one or more of the projects.

We followed that up with something really fun.  Since the next choice of patch to pursue was the Sports/Exercise patch, we let the girls invent a new sport and teach it to all of us!  I brought a big bucket of various implements that could be used to make a game, and the girls had a ton of fun creating their own sports.  (And quite frankly the games were pretty fun!)  I'm also in the process of putting these inventions online so we'll have our very own troop game-book we can go back to and use in the future!

2)  Second, an October event!  I recently got the flyer in the mail for the UWM Women's Soccer Girl Scout Game for this year, and seeing as how much overlap there is between our soccer girls and our scouts, I figured we might want to hit it again this year.

Here are the details:

The game is October 15th, at 2:00PM at Englemann Field at UWM.

$3.00 gets you a your ticket, a hot dog, a soda, and the UWM patch.

Sign up if you can go, and let me know how many TOTAL tickets you'll need. (Family is invited!)

3)  Third, what you've all been waiting for:  Washington DC dates!  After blacking out important dates (Army drill, WYSA Soccer Tryouts, School, etc.) our Washington DC trip will be the week of June 18th-24th.

I don't have pricing details, primarily because we don't know what our troop account will look like, nor do we know how many people are interested and available to join in that week.  We still have a nut sale and a cookie sale to add into the account before the trip, and depending on how many scouts we're dividing the amount up by the cost could vary by quite a bit.

In order to start getting that nailed down though, let's at least get a feel for how many scouts are available and interested in going June 18-24th, 2017.  This isn't binding, or anything like that.  But it will let us get started reserving hotel/living space for our trip and knowing how much we actually have to book!

Sign up here:

That's about it!  Happy scouting!

Aleks
