Girl Scouts: Cookie Booths, and Cookie Search!

Hi everyone!

Just a quick couple (or three) cookie notes from me (the only ones, I promise--Ms. Kelly's handling ALL the cookie stuff!)

1)  I see a bunch of booths full of girls, but with no parents attending.  Girl Scouts will be "spot checking" booths this year to make sure everyone's following the rules (2 adults present, no more than 4 girls at a booth at a time) and if we're not following the rules we can get banned from cookie booths.  So please, if you've signed your scout up for a booth, and see that there's no other parent signed up, try to spend some time there with the scouts.

I really want all our girls to get the cool prizes and awards, and sell all the cookies they can so when we put together the summer 2017 trip to Washington DC we can make it an awesome trip for all the girls to remember.  If we get banned from booths, that'll be tough.

2)  Speaking of unpopulated booths, one of the BEST booths of the year is virtually empty.  The booth this Friday at the downtown Pick n Save from 4-7:00 only has one scout signed up to attend.  This is the first day scouts will be at booths this year, and historically that's the best time to sell.  I definitely understand why some girls can't be there, (16 of you are heading to the Kenosha event!)  But if you can do that booth, I recommend it!  I'll be there setting up as quickly as a person can drive from Highland View to downtown Milwaukee, but then Ms. Kelly will be taking over at 4:15-4:30 when I jet back to Greendale to drive scouts to that Kenosha event.

3)  Did anyone pick up extra shortbread cookies from Ms. Kelly's house last week?  We're trying to track down a few boxes that may have jumped ship.

I think that's about it,

Keep Cookie-ing!

Girl Scouts: Where one door closes, another opens!

Hi everyone!

For those following along, you'll notice we had a Discovery World Sleepover scheduled for March.  Well, it sounds like that's no longer available from Discovery World.  It's been taken out of the eBiz website. That's sad.  But we've had some great adventures this year, and we'll survive!  (Plus, we were having so many overnighters!  Adding that Wave one put us at an overnight event almost every month so far this year--the fall campout, the first Discovery World sleepover, Wave Girl Scout night, and the Civil War Museum one coming up!)

But, to take it's place the scouts at Whitnall Middle and High School moved their World Thinking Day event to March.  (That wasn't the actual reason, but it works for our purposes.)

So, here are the details.  If you're interested, let me know ASAP!  I have to register our troop by 2/22.  It's $4 for scouts (adults are free!) and it includes the 2016 World Thinking Day patch for every scout.  (That's a front-of-the-sash patch!)

(And sorry to Highland View scouts that were at the Wave Game--I didn't get your patches to you yet.  I think I'm going to have to do it at the meeting coming up.)

Girl Scout Father Daughter Dance

On April 15th one of the GMS Girl Scout Troops is hosting a Father Daughter Dance at the Highland View gym.  I've included the registration form as an attachment for anyone who's interested.  It should be a good event.  That troop has a strong track record.  According to the form, you need to register before March 4th to get a patch.  There's only room for 100 scouts total though, so register right away to be sure you get in!  Here's the information too:

Father/Daughter Dance

Date: Friday, April 15th 2016
Time: 6:30-8:30p.m.
Location: Highland View Elementary
5900 S. 51st St. Greendale, WI 53129

This is an opportunity for girls' k4-8th grade and their dad (or other significant adult male) to spend a very special night together! Pictures will be taken by a photographer, a DJ will provide the music, dinner will be served, Girl Scouts patch available, and fun activities will be provided. Troop 1662 will use the proceeds to make blankets for children with cancer.

Contact me for registration information.

Girl Scouts: Our February "Playing in the Past" Overnight Trip

Hello everyone!

We've had some busy and fun weeks lately!

First:  Don't forget our College Park based meeting this Thursday.  As usual, make sure if you have a College Park scout attending that she has it in her agenda, and makes sure to head to the Spanish room after school!  Sign up here if you still need to:

Second:  Those of you with good memories should remember me asking everyone to sign up early for the Playing in the Past Overnight Event at the Kenosha Civil War Museum. (Details below if you need a memory refresher!)  As predicted, it filled up super fast, so I'm incredibly glad I got you all in early!

Here's who I have as going:
Teagan A.
Adrhia F.
Lilian U.
Alison D.
Lia S.
Liliana K.
Mahi P.
Maya H.
Evie + Dad
Makenzie S.
Megha M.
Lara +Mom
Aria K.
Dea S.
Katie +Mom

We did have a cancellation, so if there's one more scout that wants to go, I can fit her in BUT that scout HAS to bring a parent to stay over.  As it is, there are 15 scouts on the list, and 12 possible spots in cars to drive down there, meaning I'm already going to have to beg for one of the scouts' parents to drive a couple scouts down on Friday night, and someone to come down to Kenosha Saturday morning to drive a couple scouts back home.

Here are the details:
Playing in the Past Overnight
Juniors-Playing the Past Friday, February 26, 2016, 6:30pm-Saturday, February 27, 2016, 9am
Spend the night during the Civil War era! "Meet" women from the Civil War era, play games, make and eat food, and create jewelry.
The overnight includes a living history event that the girls bring to life! An evening snack and Saturday morning breakfast are included.
Earned badge: Playing in the Past

That's actually about it for February--other selling a ton of cookies!  I hope it's going well for everyone.  If you have cookie questions, or want to volunteer to help carting, sorting, carrying, or watching cookies, contact Ms. Kelly at kellymatt8476@gmail.com .

Thanks for reading this far, see you soon!
