Girl Scouts: 4th of July Parade Details

Hello everyone!

Just some details for the scouts walking in the parade on the 4th:

Set up begins at 9:00 in the Southridge Macy's parking lot (off Grange) HOWEVER, the parade itself doesn't start until 10:00+, so we've learned a good time to show up is around 9:30 or so.  We'll be in the parking lot with the long Girl Scout troop banner we made waving from the top of our car.

Please have the scouts wear their Girl Scout sash!

The parade ends across the street from Greendale High school, so if you could meet us there to pick up your scout that would be great.  If you can't meet us there for pick-up, let me know, and we'll work out some other arrangement.

One non-parade note:  The deadline for registering for Greendale Kickers soccer for the fall season is July 1st to avoid a $20 late fee, so if your girl is interested in soccer for next year, now's the time to sign up!

Have a great week!

Girl Scouts: 3 Quickies!

Hello Girl Scout Families!

1)  I've included the .pdf showing the patch and t-shirt finalists for the campout.  Send me your votes ASAP!  Kahlen and Evie's patch designs are numbers 6 and 7 (The patch with the cactuses is Kahlen's and the patch with the boot with the GS logo on it is Evie's).  Let's see if one of our girls can be a featured Girl Scout artist!

2)  Campout Lost and Found:
Found:  Dark blue windbreaker jacket, peach colored light sweatshirt, dark blue pair of jeans size 7, large black flashlight, seven year old girl with blond hair that plays soccer and swims.

3)  Don't forget that we're marching in the 4th of July Parade coming up.  I have flag holsters and several United States flags from different eras for the girls to carry, plus our big troop banner.

That's about all for now.  I hope summer's going well!

Girl Scouts: P.S. A couple more

Hello again,

Just a couple more bits of information for the campout:

1)  Bring your scout right to the lodge.  We'll be at Ross Lodge (9750 S. 92nd Street) which is right across from the golf course in Whitnall Park on 92nd Street.  The easiest way to get there is to take Rawson west until you hit 92nd Street, then turn right (north) and follow that up to Ross Lodge (on the right just after the archery range).

2)  Arrival is between 4:00-5:00 this evening.  If your scout is going home to sleep tonight, between 9:00 and 10:00 PM is probably a good pick up time, then bring her back either around 9:00 in the morning if she wants to join in with breakfast, or 10:00 if she wants to eat breakfast at home.

3)  As far as leaving on Saturday night:  we expect to be wrapping up eating around 8:00.  We're making our own outdoor stoves and ovens to cook on, so the girls will probably want to stay for dinner!

I think that's all for now!

Girl Scouts: Campout--yes it's raining right now...

Hello again!

Just a couple last minute updates for those of you with scouts going on the campout today/tomorrow:

1)  My cell number is 595-6668 if you need to reach me.  Likewise, please remember to send emergency contact information (you, an alternate contact, and any medical information--doctor, allergies, medications) just in case.

2)  Yes, it's raining.  We have enough inside activities that we can still have a great time, whether it's still raining tonight or not.  No matter what though, make sure to pack mud boots and rain gear for your scout.  As long as it's not stormy, we'll try to get out for a hike, and it will be muddy.

3)  Two families have said they have aerobeds/air mattresses for girls to sleep on in the craft room to ease pressure on the bunk room tonight.  (Thanks again!) If someone else has a third one, that would be great though!

See you soon!

Girl Scout Campout: Quick request

Hello everyone!

I was looking at our camper list for this Friday->Saturday, and we'll be pushing the limits on the bunk room.  We can have girls sleep in the craft room--I can find someplace else!  But that won't be comfortable unless someone has an air mattress or something like that to cushion the floor a bit.

Does anyone coming to the campout Friday->Saturday have an air mattress (preferably one I don't have to manually blow up!) that we could set up for girls to sleep on so we don't have to pack the bunk room so tight?

Thanks a million!

Girl Scouts: Beach Cleanup Tonight!

Hello Girl Scouts!

Just a reminder:  I'm not sure what the weather's going to be like at any given moment today, but if it's nice, some of us will be out at Bay View Beach cleaning it up.  (I have patches for it!)  It's probably my favorite community service event--you get to just relax and unwind while picking up garbage along the beach, enjoying the sounds of the lake waves rolling in.  The cleanup starts at 6:30 and runs to 8:00.  You can find a map/directions here:

So, if the weather's good, we'll be looking for all of you!

Girl Scouts: Great Campout! And beach cleanup information

Hello again!

What an amazing campout!  Not only did we learn something, but I know there were some memories made that will pretty much last forever.  I saw there were some parents considering the June 20th weekend that had a question about the campout location.  It's actually super close--right in Whitnall Park, just about a half mile north of Rawson on 92nd street.

We have our Beach Cleanup at Bay View Beach on the calendar for tomorrow.  While that's an awesome time, if the weather is like today, don't expect to go.  I'd rather not get all the girls sick just in time to start summer vacation!  However, if it's nice, we'll see you there:

And keep your schedule open to march in the 4th of July Parade with the troop.  It's becoming one of our traditions!

Enjoy these last couple days of school, we'll see you soon!

Girl Scouts: Great Year!

Hello everyone!

What a great year we had.  I think we caped it off with a pretty fun end-of-the-year party meeting today.  I hope all the girls had a lot of fun!

Just some housecleaning notes:

1)  I still have some lost and found stuff from Key Lime Cove.  If you're missing swimwear, or bathrobes/towels, let me know--maybe it's here!

2)  Some folks have been having trouble with the online registration process through Girl Scouts.  On the other hand, some folks have gotten through A-OK.  If you're having trouble, and want me to register your scout through the troop, let me know.  Registration for next year is $15, (which I think is a pretty great deal!) so if I am going to register your scout, just get the money to me, whenever you can.  I'd like to get in on the chance to win an overnight for our troop at any Girl Scout property, but we have to have 80% re-registered by June 11th, so let me know!
Here's the link to the registration site.  (If you haven't used it recently, you may need to make a new account.)

3)  And, finally, here's a link to our summer events.  Our first summer outing is coming up June 12th (next Thursday) to go to Bay View Beach and help the beach cleanup there.  This was a fantastic event last year--relaxing, helping the community, just wonderful.  I don't know if they'll do it again this year, but afterwards a local pizza joint even gave us all free dinner!

Have a great day!

Aleks

Girl Scouts: June 5th End-of-the-Year Party Meeting

Hello!

The end of the year sure snuck up on us!  We have one meeting left during the school year and we're going to make it a fun one!

We'll have an ice cream sundae bar, and have a short movie play and play a bunch of games to celebrate another year under our sashes.  We'll also be recognizing our 3rd graders who are going to receive their Green Junior Scout sashes at the meeting too.  (So I hope they can all make it!)

In fact, we have our Beach Cleanup at Bay View Beach coming up Thursday June 12th, and the first of our campouts coming up this Friday.

See you soon!

Aleks
