Girl Scouts: Robots final lineup?

Hi everyone!

First:  You are the best!  We are totally set on drivers--and due to a cancellation by one family are even ahead on ride space!

I just want to make sure I have everything in order for the Robot Competition event tomorrow.

As I mentioned before, here's the itinerary we've followed before which we'll try to stick to again:

9:00 Meet at our house
9:30 arrive at the arena
9:30-10:45 Watch the robot competitions
10:45-12:00 Visit the pit area and meet the robot builders and see the robots up close
12:00-1:00 Lunch at Grand Avenue
1:30 Arrive back at our house

Here's who I'm expecting and how I'm expecting everyone to get to the UWMPanther Arena (Where the Wave play.) Let me know if something is glaringly wrong!

Girl Scouts: ROBOTS Revisited! (Help?)

Hello Troop 8035/8036!

Just a quick request on the robot battle front this Saturday:

Any extra drivers?

We've gone from 2 interested scouts to 8 really quickly.  My van can fit 6 of them.  Is anyone else interested in going?  And is anyone whose scout did want to go able to be a driver?  We'll cover parking, as always!

Girl Scouts: ROBOTS!

Hello Scouts!

OK, just a reboot of the invitation for one of our favorite Troop traditions:  The FIRST Team Robotics Competition this weekend!

Going to the robotics competition downtown is a 4 year Troop tradition and is VERY well loved.  Each year, High School students from all over the Midwest build robots to compete against each other in different games.  Their regional championship is at the UWM Panther Arena downtown on March 26th.  In addition to watching the robots compete, the girls get a chance to visit the "pit" and meet the robot builders and ask questions about the robots.  (And usually get all sorts of robot souvenirs--keychains, pins, etc.)  And it's all FREE!

Here's the game for this year--it looks super cool; the robots have to get past defenses and attack the opposing team's fortress.  http://www.wisconsinregional.com/2016.php

I only heard from a couple scouts that were interested in going.  (Dea, Adrhia) Anyone else?  We can totally carpool--I have lots of room in the van.  The plan is to meet up at our house at 9:00, and be back to our house by 1:30.  (That gives us time to have lunch after seeing all the robots.)

Please let me know if your scout wants to attend as soon as you can so I can make sure to have ride space if we need it!

Happy scouting, and happy spring!

Girl Scouts: Last minute openings! Anyone close to a cookie goal?

Hello everyone!

I know it's last minute, but a couple opportunities opened up for scouts today.

First, this morning, a girl canceled for the World Thinking Day event.  (1:45-4:00 Whitnall Middle School)  Since the check's already sent in for that event we have an open spot that I would hate to waste.  That's pretty much just throwing money away.  So, if there's a girl that's free from 1:45-4:00 this afternoon (Saturday 3/19) let me know and you can jump into that open spot if you're the first one.

Second, if someone's close to a cookie selling goal, there's a girl that canceled but didn't take her name off the sign up genius page for the cookie booth this afternoon, so there's actually an open spot there (1:00-5:00 PM).  That booth is at the South Milwaukee Pick n Save:  2931 S Chicago St South Milwaukee  WI 53172.   Let me know if you're interested!

Girl Scouts: Wednesday Meeting, March CP Meeting Recap, and World Thinking Day

Hello Scouting Families!

Three bullet points today:

1)  Our Highland View Meetings are Wednesday and Thursday this week.  They should be a lot of fun.  Ice Cream Party, pillow making, and problem solving!

Here's who I have on for Wednesday.  I see there are a couple parents signed up to help, so I extended the Sign Up Genius for Wednesday in case anyone needs to squeeze in there.  If you have a CP scout that missed the meeting last week, for whatever reason, know that she's welcome to join us at Highland View either day--just let me know to expect her so I have enough supplies!

Attendance:
Portia P.
Teagan A.
Hannah P.
Kahlen W.
Adrhia F.
Tiki D.
Emmi D.
Lia S.
Samantha S.
Isabel S.
Mahi P.
Aria K.
Alison D.
Gabby H.
Evie S.

I'll put the Thursday attendance list out tomorrow, so we don't confuse everything!

2)  Here's a quick summary of what's happening at out meeting this month:
First, we're narrowing down our choice for Troop Crest.  Last month the girls narrowed it down from a list of 20 to a final 4.  This month, they're taking it to the final choice by ranking which adjectives they think fit themselves the best.  We'll chose the crest which best matches the adjectives the girls picked out.  I'm super excited to see what it'll be!
Second, at College Park, we split into groups and one group made tie-together pillows, while the other group made Girl Scout Law bead lanyards.  It turned out there really wasn't time to finish both of those projects for several of the girls, so in the future we're just doing the pillow making.  I've included the chart for the Girl Scout Law lanyard if any of the scouts want to wrap it up at home.
Third, we discussed the final four "problems" we're considering for our Brinze Project, and brainstormed ideas of things we could do as girls to combat those issues:  Pollution, Home Alone Safety, Bike Helmets, and Online Safety.
Finally we had an ice cream sundae bar, using crushed Girl Scout Cookies for toppings.  Yum!

3)  World Thinking Day/Disney Princesses at Whitnall Middle School.  Here's the attendance list again as a reminder.

Adrhia F.

Remember, this is BYOS (Bring Your Own Scout) or at least make arrangements for your scout to get there and back home.  You don't have to stay though.  It's at: Whitnall Middle School Cafeteria, 5025 S. 116th Street Greenfield, WI.  Arrival/Check in is 1:45, and pick up is at 4PM.

That's all for now!  See you Wednesday or Thursday! (Or last week Thursday, or this Saturday, or Sunday, or next Saturday...)

Girl Scouts: Campout T-Shirt contest--let's keep the streak alive!

Hi everyone!

It's time to design a t-shirt and a patch!  Every year the Green Corners campout team has a contest to design the t-shirt and patch that every girl will get when the attend the Green Corners campout in September.  (That's the one we did out in Silverbrook.)

Our troop has a history of winning the design of at least one of the items for the last two years.  Last year Scarlett's t-shirt won, and the year before Evie's patch won.  (Though if I remember right we had a couple girls' patches in the finals that year.)

I've attached the form.  This year's theme is:  Medieval Times.  So think of jousting and princesses, and fun stuff like that.

The deadline to turn in entries is April 1st.  You can turn them in to me by email (scanned and sent) or get them to me in person on paper.  The patch can have up to 4 colors, but the shirt needs to be in black and white (because the shirts get tie-dyed!)

Thanks everyone, and we'll see you today or next week for our March meetings!

Girl Scouts: College Park-based meeting attendance on Thursday

Hello everyone,

Here's who I have listed as attending girl Scouts Thursday 3/10 at College Park:

 Megha M.
 Bailee A.
 Ashlee F.
 Carrie J.
 Jesialis P.
 Lara E.
 Hannah S.
 Maya H.
 Lauren P.
 Sophia V.
 Madison M.
Grace U.
Jane U.

Anyone missing?  I can add up to 2 more scouts before we need to have another parent helping in the room!

Remember, this month is kind of a celebration.  We'll do our final vote on our troop crest, and narrow down what problem we want to work on for our Bronze Award, but the rest of the time will be girl scout crafts and fun.

See you Thursday (or next week!)

Girl Scouts: One more thing...

Hi again (again!)

I see at the end of April I had the "Girl Scouts Go Green" event at Silverbrook on our schedule.  Considering how busy March is, and considering that the soccer season's going to be in full swing by then, (which affects a solid half or more of our scouts,) I'm thinking of re-imagining  that event into something easier on everyone's schedules.

I'm wondering if we can turn that day's event into a more local Earth-Day themed event.  I'm thinking we can do a park clean up, a reduce/reuse/or recycle based craft, and a picnic? We could do it right at Scout Lake park, or Whitnall Park, and keep it nice and close.

Would there be any objections?

Aleks

Girl Scouts: March! Read all about it!

Hi everyone!

So, March.  What can I say.  There's a LOT going on!

First:  We're solidly into cookie time.  For questions and updates, Ms. Kelly is taking care of everything with the word "cookie" in it.  Her email is kellymatt8476@gmail.com.

Second:  Woohoo!  We folded a lot of stars the last two months!  So, for March our meeting is going to be 100% fun.  We'll have a couple crafty things to do, some games, and double (maybe triple!) snacks!  I'm thinking ice-cream sundaes (no nuts) ?

Here's the link to sign up for the meeting your scout will attend:  www.SignUpGenius.com/go/10C0A4FA5AD22A13-march

Third:  As I mentioned before, the Discovery World Event that was scheduled for this weekend wasn't available for registration by Girl Scouts, for whatever reason (might have been cancelled?) but since we didn't register anyone, that shouldn't cause any problems.  I'm just mentioning it in case you were still looking at the orginal schedule I sent out back in Sept./Oct.

Fourth:  On the other hand, the World Thinking Day Princesses event IS still on for March 19th (1:45-4:00PM, Whitnall Middle School).  Here's my list, any changes?  Also, for this event, we'll probably need you to bring your scout to Whitnall Middle school, and pick them up afterwards.  Is there anyone that won't be able to drive out to Greenfield that afternoon?  I can help work out carpools as needed!

Fifth:  The FIRST teams robotics competition!  This is a Troop tradition, and is VERY well loved. (And usually get all sorts of robot souvenirs--keychains, pins, etc.)

Here's the game for this year--it looks super cool; the robots have to get past defenses and attack the opposing team's fortress.  http://www.wisconsinregional.com/2016.php

It is a free event, and we would probably go between 9:00-12:00 during the qualifications matches--that way none of the robot teams will have gone home yet and we can meet as many teams in the pit as possible.  So, who can go this year?

Thanks everyone!  See you soon!
