Girl Scouts: Escape Room Saturday! and 2/5 Cookie & Admirals

Hi everyone,

Reminder:  I booked a Casino Heist at 4:15at 60 to Escape in Southridge. We can meet either at our house at 3:45 and carpool or meet at Southridge at 4:00

Let me know which you are doing so I know who to wait for!

The room goes for 60 minutes, and we'll have a mini meeting afterwards to pick an actual scout thing to do next (badge, etc. ) and grab some dinner. Expect we'll be done around 6:30. (I have to check Southridge hours; if it's open late enough we'll eat there, otherwise we'll go meet and eat somewhere nearby.)

And please let me know who can help at the Girl Scout Southeast Wisconsin cookie Event downtown on 2/5 from 1-6 (with the option to stay for the Admirals Game afterwards if you want.)

Thanks, see you next year!

One idea that's percolated up from the girls is to do an escape room as a team building activity. And that sounds like a great idea!

Looking at the upcoming schedule, who would be available January 1 or 2 (Saturday or Sunday) for an escape room team building activity at Southridge?

Also, we were asked if we could help at the GSWISE Cookie Kickoff at UWM Panther Arena on 2/5 from 1-6. Who is available then? I can provide a ride to and from the event, and if any scouts want to stay for the Admirss as la Hockey Game after, their ticket is included with their helping!

So:

1). Who's available 1/1 or 1/2 for escape room scout fun?
2). Who's available 2/5 to help Girl Scouts with their big event?

IMPORTANT: Girl Scouts Escape Room: Who will still be coming 1/1

Hi everyone!

So I've heard COVID has been hitting hard. The last check had everyone (Evie, Ava, Ellen, Katie, Colette, Quinn, Carrie) coming to the Escape Room on 1/1, but has COVID affected that at all?

Please (please!) reconfirm your availability ASAP since I have a little wiggle room in tickets/reservations and we can save some troop money if we get our numbers right.

Thanks so much!

Aleks

Sounds like fun! I'm free both days for the escape room, I'm not sure about the cookie kickoff yet.

Old World Wisconsin Update

Hi everyone,

I just went to the Old World Wisconsin Site, and they are all sold out.  I did already buy tickets for everyone I mentioned in the last email (Quinn, Carrie, Colette, Evie).

If you weren't on that list but still want to go--let me know ASAP!  I would be surprised if I couldn't wrangle my way into an extra ticket if I let them know our Girl Scout troop has gone every year, etc.

We'll meet at our house around 4:15, and plan to be back around 10:30.  As I mentioned, we'll have dinner there.

If you really want to go, I will do my best to make it happen!

Girl Scouts: Last day to enter orders for Nut Sale tomorrow

Hi everyone,

Just one last reminder that the last day for you to enter nuts and candy sales online is tomorrow (10/18).  I have until 10/20 if you miss that deadline to enter for you.

If you haven't set up your account at Me2, (you should have gotten a link from Girl Scouts a few weeks ago) here's that link again:

Speaking of stuff we do with the money from the Nut Sale, during the Fun Run today I saw our walking path signs are still up and looking great from our Silver Project, and I attached a couple of our campout pictures!

And coming up:  I have:  Colette, Evie, Carrie, and Quinn signed up for Old World Wisconsin Halloween on 10/23.  Anyone else?  We'll have dinner there, and there's enough room in vehicles for more if anyone wants to join in.  Other nights of the event are sold out already, so let me know ASAP if you want to go but aren't on that list!

Happy Scouting!

Aleks

P.S.  Please think about stuff YOU would like to do this year!  We can be more in person so there are lots of opportunities!

Girl Scouts: last chance fir Old World WI Halloween!

Hi everyone!

First:  still hoping for your suggestions on scout work for the year—

Girls:  Take a moment and pick out a Senior Girl Scout Journey you think we should work on this year.  A good list is at this link, along with documents detailing potential activities for each stage in those journeys.  We'll do them in a combination of virtual, in person, and maybe even reserve another day/night at camp during winter to do some work on it too.

Second:  October Spooky Fun!  I have to preorder tickets and this has sold out in the past, so if you're interested, let me know!  Rides available.

Another troop tradition is a Halloween event.  Old World Wisconsin has its Legends and Lore event again this year, and it is always a TON of fun.

I'm looking at October 23rd, Leaving our house around 4:30, and getting back around 10:15 ish.

Who is interested?

#3)  Volunteer opportunity!

The Greendale Fire Department is holding an event on 10/16 from 9-3 and they could use some volunteers to help with activities like fire extinguisher use, trying on firefighter clothes, cpr training, etc.    Is anyone available and interested in helping out?

#4)  GSWISE Nut Sale

The Nut and Candy Sale starts now.  You should have gotten an email link from Girl Scouts, and I can get you the paper order cards if you're interested!  Orders need to be in by October 18th, and this year there are a bunch of new things on the menu!  https://www.gswise.org/content/dam/girlscouts-gswise/documents/WisconsinSoutheast2021_OT_v2.pdf

Hope school is going well!

First:  can everyone who plans to join in confirm if they plan to attend even some of the time (Friday/Saturday/Sunday 9/10-11-12)?

As always, now that the girls are getting older and involved in more things, being there the whole time is not mandatory--so, for example, if there's a cross country meet or something like that Saturday, skipping out for a few hours is A-OK.

Scouts and Robots: Fire Hydranting Saturday

Hi everyone!

Here's details for Saturday. I think I said 9-12 before, but the real time is 8-1 (but the Fire Department's cooking for us afterwards!)

See you Saturday!

From the Greendale DPW:

Good Morning,

I'm happy to say we have had a great response for the Fire Hydrant Painting.

The Fire Chief and I will be hosting this event July 17th, 2021 from 8am-1pm, at the Greendale Fire Department.  We will supply the paint, brushes, maps, and at 1 pm we will all meet back at the Fire Department for a cookout.

Girl Scouts: Renaissance Faire Sunday

Hi everyone!

I have Carrie, Ava, Evie, Katie, and Quinn as scouts on the list for Sunday.  I have your tickets in hand and ready!

If you're driving with me (I believe that's Ava, Evie, and Katie) then meet at our house at 10:00 and we'll hit the road as early as we can!

If you're driving yourself and arriving later (Carrie) I'll be looking for a text from you and will meet you at the front with tickets when you arrive (about when should I expect you?)

If you're driving yourself at the same start time as us, meet up at the house at 10:00 too and I'll give you your tickets, and we'll follow each other over!

See you Sunday!

Hi everyone!

Just three quickies:

#1)  Update: We're moving Girl Scout Renaissance Faire from Saturday 7/10 to Sunday 7/11.  I only heard back from a couple of scouts about attendance in general, and it was ok with them.  Is anyone else planning on joining in, and does this change things?

#2)  Check In:  Greendale Fire Hydrant Painting Party on 7/17:  Anyone else interested?  I have Ava, Carrie, Evie, Colette, and Ellen from Girl Scouts on the list.  Anyone else?

#3)  Question:  I'm getting set to register everyone for the next year, is anyone on this email list not continuing in 2021-22?

Thanks, and see you soon (Renaissance Faire, Fire Hydrant Painting, or something, I'm sure!)

Girl Scouts: Old World Wisconsin and Renaissance Faire Dates

Hi everyone!

After hearing back from a couple of you, it narrowed our choices for our traditional scout trips to Old World Wisconsin and the Renaissance Faire to just a couple dates, so here we go--save the dates!  (Also let me know if you'll be joining in ASAP!)

July 10th:  Renaissance Faire Trip
Plan to meet up at our house 10:00, and be back home around 8:30PM

August 8th:  Old World Wisconsin Trip
Plan to meet up at our house at 9:30 and be back home around 5:00PM

And remember we have Fire Hydrant Painting with Greendale DPW and Greendale Fire Department (with a Fire Department cookout afterwards!) on July 17th!

Girl Scouts: Last chance to help me pick dates for Old World Wisconsin and Renaissance Faire

Hi everyone,

With summer officially rolling, I want to get dates locked in for at least these two Scout events this summer.  I haven't heard from many of you about dates I should avoid.  I can't make promises, but if you tell me when I should at least try to avoid, I will do my best to not schedule things those weekends.

So please let me know if there are particular dates this summer when you will be unavailable.

Thanks!

Girl Scouts and Roboteers: July 17th Greendale Project

Hi everyone!

I had talked with our robotics team about working with the Village to repaint the Greendale Fire Hydrants, and the Greendale DPW has set a date, and I'd like to invite our scouts to join in too!

July 17th, 8:00-1:00 the DPW and Fire Department will have a painting party, where they'll supply all the materials, and refreshments, and we'll go out through Greendale and paint the town (hydrants) red.

It's a great service project, and another way to make connections.  The DPW has been a big supporter of our scout troop (especially with the bench installations and path signage we did for the silver project!) so it's great to be able to help them out too.  And helping the village is great for the robotics team, since they've been so helpful letting us have space at VIllage Days, 4th of July, Big Truck/Bike Safety day (this Saturday!) etc.

I do need to know who will join in ASAP so that I can get numbers to Mr. Damask at the DPW so he can have enough supplies for everyone.

If you're available Saturday Morning 7/17, please let me know!

Some upcoming opportunities: Camp HERO, Coding, Parks Opportunities

Hi everyone!

In addition to our usual troop summer Girl Scout events (Renaissance Faire, Old World Wisconsin, Beach Clean Ups, etc.)  I found a few upcoming Scout Programs you might be interested in.  I'll be working on our summer schedule soon, but for now, here's some other fun opportunities.  (See you Saturday Morning too!  9-11 at Daffodil park!)

A couple years ago, Evie did a Boundary Waters two-week Canoe Trip with Girl Scout Destinations, and she loved it.  If you're interested in travel and scouting opportunities that expand your horizons, check out the Destination Trips for next year:

2022 Destinations Coming Soon!

·         Girls in grades 6-12 can travel to amazing places, try new things, and meet sister Girl Scouts from around the globe through Girl Scout Destinations.

·         Girl Scout Destinations generally happen during summer, range in length, and focus on a variety of topics. Past Girl Scout Destinations have included dog sledding in Minnesota, kayaking in Alaska, engineering in Missouri, astronautics in Alabama, and a service challenge in Costa Rica.

·         Financial assistance may be available through GSWISE.

·         All 2022 Destinations will be posted around May 1 with applications due June 15.

Camp HERO is another fun summer experience for girls, especially if they're interested in the rescue services.

CampHERO (Grades 8-12)

·         Overnight camp taking place June 13-18

·         Rappel down the side of a building, use the jaws of life to extricate a crash victim, and chase down and handcuff a suspect. Also learn about blood splatter analysis, crime scene processing, CPR, search and rescue, self-defense, and so much more! Spend a week living and training just like professional firefighters, police officers, and EMTs at Milwaukee Area Technical College while your nights are spent at Trefoil Oaks Program Center. Learn from real-world heroes to get a real-life vision of what it takes to have a career in the protective services.

·         Learn More & Register Now

If you're interested in coding, this might be worth checking out.  I don't know how many of the 200 free registrations are still available (I bet they go fast!)

Think Like a Programmer Journey (Grades 6-12)

·         This opportunity is FREE for the first 200 girls who express interest and commit to completing the 8-week programming project. To receive the discount code for registration, email Margarita Fons at mfons@gswise.org.

·         Earn the Think Like a Programmer Journey online and learn to code like a programmer while overcoming obstacles, building problem solving skills, and developing confidence as an independent coder. When you finish your Journey, you will have coded a final project of your choosing. CodeCampKidz will guide you step-by-step as you work through your project from the comfort of home on your own schedule. No experience or previous coding knowledge is required.

And finally, if you're into getting outside, and using our Milwaukee Parks, here's a way to earn prizes while having fun:

Spring into PARKticipation!

Become a PARKticipant!   It's simple, easy, and FREE, and you can earn prizes by PARKticipating!

Here's how PARKticipation works:

1.         Download a FREE PARKticipation card from the website or email director@parkpeoplemke.org to have a card sent to your home.

2.         To earn prizes, complete the activities displayed on the PARKticipation card, crossing out each activity you complete.

3.         To qualify for prizes, scan or take a photo of the card and submit on or before June 30, 2021.

Hi everyone!

Two reminders and details for tomorrow:

1)  Just a short reminder the park cleanup was rescheduled, and is NOT tomorrow.  The new date is 5/22 9-11AM.  Greendale DPW will get details to us.

2)  We're making dog and cat toys with kids at PetPalooza tomorrow!  Woohoo!  The timeline is 11:00-3:00 (I think I had said 2:00 before, so if you have to leave at 2:00, that's OK, but it would be really very very great if you could stay until 3:00.)  We should have enough people attending so that everyone will get a lot of time to also explore PetPalooza and have lunch there.  (The troop will cover lunch costs!)  We're assigned space on the street in front of Sugar and Flour.

See you there!

Two Updates!

Hi everyone!

Just a couple updates.

First:  Thanks to the girls who helped at Clean and Green!  I let your schools know what you did, and they were super proud of you.  And the seniors whose yards you helped get ready for summer were incredibly appreciative!

Second:  Park Cleanup change:  We were originally scheduled to do a park cleanup with the Greendale DPW and Health Department on May 8th before Pet-Palooza, but they've rescheduled that to May 22nd 9AM-11AM

Third:  I have cookie sale prizes in hand now.  So Ava, Carrie, Colette, Ellen, Katie, and Quinn:  let me know when is good to pick up and we'll work something out!
