Girl Scouts: Nursing Home Visit 2016

Hello everyone!

Once again Ms. Kelly has organized a visit to the Elizabeth Residence Nursing Home (Thanks!) for our scouts to spend some time with the folks living there--play some games, do some crafts, and provide a rewarding experience for everyone involved.

To keep the numbers manageable, we will have several days to choose from but we need to limit it to 10 scouts each day.

This is the first of those dates.  We don't have the rest of the dates set yet, but will get sign ups for those out as soon as we have them!

Please note if you can provide a ride.  We may not need it, but just in case...

Date: 11/04/2016 (Fri.)
Time: 6:00pm - 7:30pm CDT
Location: Elizabeth Residence, 9329 South 48th Street, Franklin, WI 53132

Also, I noticed we have only one person signed up for the meeting this Wednesday (11/2) and are filled up for next Wednesday (11/9).  Did I miss something going on this week?

Sign up to let me know when to expect your scout!  Since we do have a couple extra parents helping on 11/9 (Thanks!) I'll open up a few more spots there too, but I'd love it if we could fill some of the space this Wednesday!

Girl Scouts: Last Call for Nut Orders, and November Meeting Sign Up!

Hi everyone!

3 Things:

1)  Last call for nut orders.  Thanks to everyone that worked hard to help with this year's nut sale!  The very serious, no exceptions, last possible turn-in date for orders is 10/26.  That's it.  If I don't have the order to type in tomorrow, it will not be able to get ordered.  You can email me the numbers of each order type if you want, (in fact that would probably be easiest for everyone!)  I need those before 8:00 PM tomorrow.  Firm.  Serious.  Solid.  (Once more though:  Thanks so much to all who participated!)

2)  November Meetings!  October was a lot of work, so we'll follow that up with a more fun meeting in November.  I'm not eactly sure what, but it'll be good!

3)  Last call for the Wave Girl Scout game!  http://www.signupgenius.com/go/10c0a4fa5ad22a13-milwaukee

Thanks everyone and have a great night!

Girl Scouts: My address

Hi,

My address for those of you that need it is:

4256 Teakwood Ct.
Greendale WI 53129

See (some of) you at 4:00!

Aleks

Girl Scouts: One more about tonight! (Old World Wisconsin Halloween)

Hi everyone!

If your scout isn't coming to Legends and Lore at Old World Wisconsin tonight, then you can skip this email entirely!

IF (if) your scout wants to wear a costume to the event tonight, that would be a-ok!

It's not required!  If your scout does wear a costume, make sure it's comfortable and warm and easy to move/walk in.  One of the girls' favorite areas is the "Ghosts in the Graveyard" playing area--so it's good if the costume is easy to run in too.  (No tripping hazards, not too tight, etc.)

Thanks,

Aleks

Girl Scouts: Nice job so far!

Nice job on the nut sale so far!

Remember, you have until tomorrow to get your orders logged online at:

Using the online tool to enter your paper orders makes things a lot easier and a lot more reliable, if you can.  You'll always be better at reading your writing and interpreting your order card than we are, and it saves you the hassle of having to get your sheet turned in to Kelly or I too!

Also, if your girl does set up her online site, and makes her avatar, then if she sells $250 and sends 12 emails (you can use me as one if you want and can't think of 12 other people to send emails to!) she'll get a personalized patch in the mail with her picture and name printed right on it.

I appreciate the hard work everyone, you're all amazing!

Girl Scouts: October meeting recap, and an announcement of an announcement

Hi everyone,

With the October meetings wrapped up, let's recap what the girls worked on this month!

The bulk of the meeting was taken up preparing for our Bronze Award project that's coming in spring.  The plan is to hold a Bike Safety Day in the parking lot of one of our schools.  We'll invite safety experts like police and firefighters, have safety games and prizes, have places to decorate kids bike helmets and sticker for kids to put on their bikes reminding them to wear their helmets.  We'd also like to have helmets to give to families/kids that don't have or can't afford them.

To do all that though, we'll need help, and THAT was our project this month.  We split into groups, and some of the girls prepared a persuasive letter to write to a targeted group (store, community group, police department, etc.) to schedule an appointment to meet and ask for donations.  The second (and third) squads at each meeting prepared presentations to deliver to those targeted groups once meetings were scheduled.

I'll post those presentations on line so the girls can keep studying their parts.  We'll also type up the girls' letters and get them sent out so we can start getting those donations and helpers rolling in!

After all that hard work, each squad shared their letters and presentations with the rest of the girls at the meeting, and then we had a little sticky delicious fun making caramel apples with all sorts of toppings (crushed oreos, chocolate chips, rice krispies, crushed graham crackers, etc.)

It was a lot of fun, and, when you look at the presentations and letters, you'll see it was very productive too.

I'll close out with an announcement for an upcoming announcement:

There'll be a bunch of DC Trip information coming down the pipeline soon, so be ready for it.  I was going to include it here, but it got just crazy out of hand!  Some new ideas, and some options will be coming out too.  Also, whether you're interested in being a driver or not, if you are thinking of joining in the trip, please let Ms. Kelly and I know and send us that recap of your volunteer/helper history with the troop.  We want to be as fair as we can when choosing who fills which spots, and we trust you to remember your Girl Scout efforts better than we do.  We're looking for ways to include more parents and make it a more comfortable trip for everyone involved.

Thanks everyone, happy scouting!

Girl Scouts: Return of the Boy Scout vs. Girl Scout Raingutter Regatta!

Announcing the

THIRD ANNUAL
BOY SCOUTS VS. GIRL SCOUTS
RAINGUTTER REGATTA

November 18th from 6:00-8:00 in the Highland View Gym, the Highland View Girl Scouts will take on the Highland View Cub Scouts in a race for the ages.  (Yes, that used to be the date for the Highland View All the World Festival, but that got moved to December.)

What's a "Raingutter Regatta?"  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Raingutter_regatta

I have to get numbers of interested girls to Mrs. Roberts to buy boats by October 31st.  Boat kits are $6.00, so let's represent the girls!

The boats require minimal preparation, and the girls should have fun decorating them however they like.  This year, there'll be 4 racing lanes, again so everyone can get a couple runs, and a contest for "best decorated" boat.  Patches for everyone will be provided, and the top boy and girl racers will get trophies!

Happy Scouting!

Girl Scouts: Halloween Legends and Lore and Nut Sale Details

Hi everyone!

Just a couple quick reminders and some details for this weekend:

1)  Halloween at Old World Wisconsin

We'll met at our house at 4:00, on the 22nd with the goal of arriving a little before it opens, and if we stay until close (very easy to do!) we should be back home around 9:45-10:00.  I'll have the permission slips to sign when you drop your scout off that night, so I'll be sure to have everyone's contact information if for some reason we're running late.

It looks like we'll have enough ride space for everyone that needs it.  (Thanks parents!)  Like last year, once we get there we'll break into groups of 4-5 with glow necklaces to keep track of everyone.  That way we won't spend too much time waiting in lines.  Also, there is food available there for purchase, or you can bring your own dinner.  (The food is usually hot dogs, cookies/chips, and hot chocolate--if I remember right, $5 would cover it.)

Here's how I have rides broken down, though there's some flexibility to rearrange things on Saturday.

Skibicki Car 1:
Megha
Lauren Pintar
Hannah Schlicht
Bailee Anders
Maya H.

Skibicki Car 2:
Evie
Samantha
Ellen

Wnuk Car:
Kahlen
Kortnie
Teagan

Depp Car:
Alison
Liliana K.

Meyer Car:
Evangeline M.

Heinz Car:
Gabby H.
Adrhia F-M

2)  Nut Sale!  You have from now until 10/22 to enter your orders online at your personal store:  www.gsnutsandchocolates.com/gswise .  Be sure to set up your account and make your avatar!  Please enter even your paper orders in the "paper order" section.  If you enter everything in it makes the whole sale easier on everyone.  You won't have to drive your form over to our house late at night.  We won't have to try to interpret your handwriting.  You'll know exactly when your order got turned in.  We won't have to be worried that someone's form is stuck in the bottom of a backpack.  So please use the online form.  IF you somehow miss that 10/22 deadline, Ms. Kelly and I can put your order in, so contact us ASAP.  After 10/26 there's no turning back!

If you weren't at a scout meeting in September, or we somehow missed getting you a Nut Order form, also let me know, because you have a little time left to get in on the action.  Just tell me the best way to get that form to you!

That's it for tonight!  We have our last October meeting this Wednesday at College Park.  If you plan on attending but haven't signed up yet, there's still a day left!  http://www.signupgenius.com/go/10c0a4fa5ad22a13-october2

See you soon, and Happy Scouting!

($20)
  • Option 2 - Come for the game, stay after the game for soccer activities and watch Finding Dory on the big screen above the field, and then leave/pick up at midnight.   In addition to hat and patch, this option also includes popcorn and small soda.  ($15)

Girl Scouts: One more call for Old World Wisconsin Haloween!

Hi everyone!

I'm just sending out one more call for the Old World Wisconsin Halloween Event coming up next week.

Here are the details:

Old World Wisconsin Halloween!  A BUNCH of the girls have asked if we'll be doing this again this year, so let's do it!  Old World Wisconsin puts on a great Halloween event called "Legends and Lore."  We can go as a troop Saturday October 22nd.  The event runs from 5:30-9:00PM that night, so we'll meet up at our house at 4:00 with the goal of getting there a little bit early.  Adults are $8.00 and kids are $5.00 after coupons (and I'll grab a bunch of the coupons again!)

It's a little spooky, but no too much.  It's just right for our age girls (not too baby-ish, but not too terrifying.)  They have crafts, stories, skits, a haunted woods walk, a haunted maze, and more.

Make sure to let me know if your scout needs a ride, or if you can provide a ride.

Happy scouting!

Aleks

Girl Scouts: Thanks! And details for the recruitment meeting helpers tonight!

Hi,

Thanks to everyone who said they could help tonight at the recruitment meeting!

Looking back, I see that the email where I asked for helpers for the Highland View Recruitment meeting tonight (6:15-7:30) didn't include where it was going to be.

It'll be in the Highland View Library (outside the office, go in through the upstairs entrance.)

Thanks again!

Girl Scouts: Any girls available Wednesday Night to help?

Hi everyone,

This Wednesday is Highland View's Girl Scout Recruitment night and it's always neat to have a couple of the older girls help out doing crafts with the younger kids while the parents talk.  It's also great to have some of the girls talk about some of the things they've done in scouts.

And of course there's a patch involved!

Are any of the scouts available between 6:15-7:30 Wednesday October 12th?

Thanks!

Aleks

Girl Scouts: Wear your Girl Scout Uniform/Sash to the meeting this month!

Hi everyone!

Part of our activities this month will be to record our Nut Sale videos, so please make sure your scout wears her Girl Scout sash (the green one) to the meeting this month.

1/18
2/15

2)  UWM Women's Sports Girl Scout Days  I turned in the form, but I can add people to either the UWM Women's Soccer Girl Scout Day on 10/15 2:00 PM or the UWM Women's Volleyball Girl Scout Day on 10/22 at 4:00 PM.  In either case $3.00 gets your ticket, a hot dog, and soda, and at the Volleyball game there's a post-game clinic for the girls too.  Also in either case there are a limited number of spaces available in cars for carpooling too if your scout wants to go but needs a ride.  Let me know if you still want to go!

3)  Old World Wisconsin Halloween!

Sign up here if your scout is interested in going this year, and let me know if you can provide a ride, or if your scout would need a ride.

4)  Bronze Proposals PLEASE take a moment and browse the proposals our girls put together to help kids wear their bike helmets and talk with your scout about the options that might be good choices to actually do.

5)  Nut Sale Many of the girls picked up Nut Sale materials at the meetings in September.  The Nut Sale officially begins on 10/7, and I'll be sending forms home through backpack mail this week for scouts that didn't get them.  Especially for girls going on the Washington DC trip, this is an important one.  Please participate.

Thanks everyone, have a great day!
